UPI reported Sen. John McCain campaign's allegation that the Los Angeles Times is "suppressing a video of a 2003 banquet showing opponent Barack Obama praising a Palestinian activist," and quoted a McCain spokesman saying the video "could provide a clearer link between Barack Obama and Rashid Khalidi" without noting McCain's own reported "connection" to Khalidi.

CNN.com, UPI advance Log Cabin Republicans' false suggestion that Palin supports benefits for same-sex couples

In reports that the Log Cabin Republicans have endorsed Sen. John McCain for president, CNN.com and UPI falsely suggested that Gov. Sarah Palin supports benefits for same-sex partners of state employees. In fact, while Palin did veto a bill in 2006 that would have prevented state officials from granting spousal benefits to same-sex couples, Palin has stated that she did so because the Alaska attorney general had advised her that it was unconstitutional, not because she supported spousal benefits for same-sex couples.

UPI ignores McCain's "gaffe" on Al Qaeda

UPI reported that Sen. John McCain "said concern still exists that Iran could be training Iraqi extremists in Iran then returning them to Iraq." In fact, McCain specifically claimed that Iranian operatives are "taking al-Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back" -- a misstatement he has made on at least one other occasion.

UPI baselessly asserted that Obama paid "substantially lower than market value" for Rezko property

United Press International reported that Barack Obama "closed a real estate deal in 2005 with [indicted businessman Antoin] Rezko's wife while the families lived next to each other," and "paid Rezko's wife a price substantially lower than market value for an adjoining parcel." In fact, Obama purchased the land from Rezko in January 2006 (not 2005, as UPI reported), he paid substantially more than what an Obama spokesman reportedly said was the land's appraised value, and the Rezkos sold the remainder of the vacant lot before developing it and thus never "lived next to" Obama.
