In TV appearances and columns, Dick Morris repeatedly promotes group without disclosing apparent financial relationship

Since the beginning of October, Dick Morris has repeatedly used his columns and Fox News appearances to promote and raise money for the National Republican Trust PAC without disclosing that the organization has paid $24,000 to a company apparently connected to Morris, according to FEC filings. During that time, Morris' email newsletter has frequently included ads that state: "Paid for by The National Republican Trust PAC."

Fox News hosts, NY Post repeated report of Sarkozy comments about Obama, without noting French Embassy dismissed report as "groundless"

Barack Obama's position on Iran "utterly immature" and "formulations empty of all content" without noting that the French Embassy issued a statement calling the Haaretz report about Sarkozy's comments "groundless."

Fox News' Carlson falsely asserted "roughly 40 percent" of Obama's tax plan "is a handout to people who do not pay taxes"

Fox News' Gretchen Carlson falsely claimed that "roughly 40 percent" of Sen. Barack Obama's plan to cut taxes "is a handout to people who do not pay taxes." In fact, all American workers are required to pay taxes on their wages for Social Security and Medicare, and according to an Obama economic adviser, "every person that receives a tax cut under Barack Obama's plan is working."

On October 24, Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson baselessly linked a woman's allegations -- since recanted -- that she was attacked by a black man in retaliation for supporting Sen. John McCain to a report that Fox & Friends aired the day before of police concerns of possible violence if Sen. Barack Obama loses the election.

Media figures falsely accuse Democrats of attempting to direct millions of dollars to ACORN

Media figures have recently accused Democrats of attempting to direct millions of dollars in government money to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) in the financial bailout bill. The accusation is false. Neither the draft proposal nor the version of the bill that was voted down in the House contained any language mentioning ACORN. Those making the false claim were misrepresenting a provision -- since removed -- that would have directed 20 percent of any profits realized on troubled assets purchased under the plan into the Housing Trust Fund* and the Capital Magnet Fund.

Fox's Carlson aired heavily cropped version of Clinton's comments on Meet the Press, then claimed it "was a major diss against Barack Obama"

Fox & Friends aired a heavily cropped version of former President Bill Clinton's comments broadcast on the previous day's Meet the Press in which Clinton was asked if Sen. Barack Obama is a "great man." Co-host Gretchen Carlson asserted that the cropped comments were evidence of "a major diss against Barack Obama by Bill Clinton." But Carlson omitted Clinton's assertion in the same interview that he "certainly admire[s] him" and that Obama's "greatness will ... become apparent" when he is elected president.

Fox & Friends' Brian Kilmeade stated that Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels has "maxed out on" his contributions to Sen. Barack Obama. But Kilmeade failed to note that, according to FEC filings, Michaels has given at least $5,300 to Sen. John McCain and his Straight Talk America PAC since 2000, including the maximum $2,300 to his presidential campaign.

Media advance claim -- not made by McCain -- that he can't use a computer or send email because of war injuries

Since the release of an Obama campaign ad asserting that Sen. John McCain "admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer, can't send an email," several Fox News figures and talk-radio hosts have claimed that McCain doesn't use a computer or email because of injuries he sustained during his service in the Vietnam War. But the McCain campaign itself did not make this claim in response to the ad, reportedly responding that "John McCain travels with a laptop."

Kilmeade baselessly claimed Dems "air-drop[ped]" team of "lawyers and investigators into Alaska" to investigate Palin

On Fox & Friends, Brian Kilmeade baselessly claimed that Democrats "air-drop[ped] 60 lawyers and investigators into Alaska" to investigate Gov. Sarah Palin. Kilmeade did not cite a source for the claim, but The Wall Street Journal's John Fund recently claimed that "Democrats have airdropped a mini-army of 30 lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers" into Alaska "to dig into [Palin's] record and background." Kilmeade did not mention that the DNC reportedly called Fund's assertion a "flat-out absolute fabrication" and said that neither the DNC nor the Obama campaign sent anyone to Alaska to do research.

Criticizing Carter, Fox News' Carlson repeated falsehood that McCain rarely talks about his POW experience

On Fox & Friends, Gretchen Carlson said that the "first time" Sen. John McCain "really did start sharing some personal moments" about his prisoner of war experience in Vietnam was during his August 16 appearance at a forum at Pastor Rick Warren's Saddleback Church, adding that "most people would say that John McCain hasn't talked enough about his POW experience." In fact, McCain has discussed his POW experience, including "personal moments," during the current campaign as well as on numerous previous occasions.
