Gibson, Jenkins received "Worst Person" honors

Summary: On the June 10 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann awarded Fox News Radio host John Gibson the "bronze" and named Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins "runner-up" in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment.

In his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment on June 10, MSNBC Countdown host Keith Olbermann awarded the "bronze" to radio host John Gibson and "runner-up" to Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins.

Olbermann gave Gibson the bronze for saying to a caller on the June 6 edition of his Fox News Radio show: "You don't know what [Sen.] Barack Obama stands for. You just like him because he's -- he's -- he's like you and you want to see one of you up there, and you don't care what he stands for." The caller responded: "[H]e's not one of me. ... He's not one of me just because he's a black guy or something like that. That doesn't make him one of me. He's standing for him, not me." Gibson had previously told an African-American caller that, "You're sticking with Obama, because he's ... he's a brother."

Jenkins was named "runner-up" for a comment he made on the June 9 edition of Fox News' Live Desk with Martha MacCallum, in which he said of a photo of Obama on a bicycle ride: "Where is he going? And I was thinking, maybe to get a pocket protector for his nerd pencils. What is that?"

From the June 10 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: But first, time for our number two story, Countdown's "Worst Persons in the World."

The bronze to John Gibson of Fixed News. I'm sorry, Fixed News Radio. They dumped him from TV -- sorry. Of course, this does allow him to be even more of a racist than usual, telling an African-American caller, quote, "You don't know what Barack Obama stands for. You just like him because he's -- he's -- he's like you and you want to see one of you up there and you don't care what he stands for." You know, like the way the Republicans voted the last two times.

How patently, by the way, is Fox making stuff up to try to get McCain back into the race? This patently: Our runner-up is Griff Jenkins, a correspondent of some sort over there, commenting on the images of Obama riding a bicycle. "Here's what no one's said yet. Where is he going? And I was thinking, maybe to get a pocket protector for his nerd pencils? What is that?"

Hang on. Can we see that picture of Mr. Jenkins again, please? Uh-huh. You might want to go easy on the nerd references, there, Skeezix.
