Conservative radio hosts claimed HUD said 5 million illegal immigrants were given subprime mortgages, despite HUD's reported denials

Summary: Rush Limbaugh and KSFO's Lee Rodgers repeated a variation of the claim that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) gave "5 million illegal aliens" subprime loans that they have not paid back. Quinn & Rose's Jim Quinn also cited the 5 million statistic without citing a source for the figure. None of these radio hosts noted that HUD has reportedly stated that this statistic is false.

One loan given to someone without a legitimate SS#, citizenship or some other paperwork that allows them to legally purchase property in the US, is too many. But man those talking heads are exagerrators.

That's where you're wrong.

One loan is not nearly enough.  How's a guy going to get rich selling only one package of risky debts?  No, you've got to sell thousands of them in order to buy that house on Nantucket and that yacht.

After all, as long as these illegal aliens are holding a gun to your head and forcing you to over-appraise property and lend money below market rates, you might as well make a bundle doing it.

Just another meme about how the illegal aliens are messing up this country from the right wing haters of all things not "American".

We've told those conservative radio hosts a million billion times not to exaggerate!!!! :-)

Gotta think the romance is over then, and reflect upon an economiclly advantageous prenupual agreement for next time.

It was over when my car skidded into a tree and disfigured me. Or was it when I was in the hospital dying of cancer while "he" was porking his office girl while pointing fingers at my liberal friends for doing that?

Or preaching about the "exils of the gay ;lifestyle" at your megachurch in Colorado Springs, while neeting up with a guy in Denver for drugs and "extracurricular activitiies"....

Not sure about the home loan industry, but here in retail beer selling land, we would be closing the cooler doors if it was'nt for the continuing patronage of our, let's say, concrete floaters and stone masons.

Great, and all this under the Supreme Leader of the Ministerium of the Truth watch?

I just now heard Mathews say calling someone an arab is not bad. just seconds ago on hardball. Mathews confuses telling the truth with political bomb throwing.

So if it is ok to call someone an "Arab", I wonder if it is okay to call somebody a "Jew" or a "Zionist" or a "WASP".

Posted by eweston8542983 in reply to zamfir273114

First one waffles, inflection means alot for that one.

Second one less so. There are folk who take pride in the term. Some use it as a horrible insult.

Third, less emotional but same idea.

As noted inflection is important, sometimes of singular importance to the meaning.

I've found that if I'm concerned about a word being taken wrong, not using it is a small thing. Politeness counts.

Of course it's OK to call anybody what they are, including Arabs, Jews, Zionists, and WASPs.  It's only wrong to use slurs in place of the proper names or to mispronounce.  Perhaps you're not really just talking about the use of the proper name, but also the context of its use?

Perhaps you're not really just talking about the use of the proper name, but also the context of its use?

Like, fer example, I don't trust that guy because he's an Arab? What? What did I say? There's nothing wrong with being an Arab, quit playing the race card!

So if it is ok to call someone an "Arab", I wonder if it is okay to call somebody a "Jew" or a "Zionist" or a "WASP".--Zamfir

I was thinking of Zamfir's "call" as "(to) designate" without any particular connotation.  But I suppose Zamfir (and Mathews) was specifically referring to the woman who said that Obama 's an Arab to McCain.  She meant it pejoratively.  So I do agree with Zamfir's point with regard to substituting in Jew or WASP, etc. into her line, delivered in the same way in a similar situation.

Mathews is wrong if I'm assuming correctly he meant it was OK just as it happened there and didn't make a separate generic point as I initially took it from WK's comment.

You're on the case CHS.

So what they are saying is that HUD under the control of Bush and the republicans, gave 5 million illegal aliens sub-prime loans?

These people are beyond stupid.

Posted by wolf kotenberg in reply to ukobserver

That is correct. One might quibble about the numbers but Bush and company still control the governance of the united states. It is their watch.
