"[J]ournalist" Sean Hannity gives bogus defense for interviewing Andy Martin

Summary: On Hannity & Colmes, Sean Hannity defended his report featuring Andy Martin -- who has called a judge a "crooked, slimy Jew" and accused African-American public officials of corruption -- by saying: "I'm a journalist who interviews people who I disagree with all the time, that give their opinion. Fox has all points of view." However, during the report, Hannity did not challenge any assertion or statement by Martin, nor did he mention any of Martin's anti-Semitic and racially charged statements.

Hannity does not have a journalism degree from anywhere and should be ostracised by those who actually worked four years for one of those degrees. Hannity is a scumbag.

"and should be ostracised by those who actually worked four years for one of those degrees"

I guess Sarah Palin should then be upset and/or angry at Hannity then??

Of course it took her four different schools to get her degree in Journalism, so I'm not sure that works and since Palin and Hannity share brain cells with the rest of the rightwing ideological twits...........

Posted by globalRower in reply to captfoster2

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with taking more than four years and studying at multiple universities to earn a 4 year degree.  Palin's stances on issues (freedom, equality, and environmental protections, for example) are plenty of reason to be disgusted with her candidacy; as good as it feels, there's no call to insult her for the time it took to earn her degree.  It took me 8 years of continuous, full time coursework at a total of three universities to earn mine, and I'm richer (though not financially - sigh) for it.

Posted by captfoster2 in reply to globalRower

My comment was tongue-in-cheek...... however, I did re-read my comment and then yours and can understand why you wrote what you wrote..... it didn't come off the way I thought..... as it took me three schools (I was 18 for the first school and 33 when I finally got the first degree (Business Accounting)) to finally get my first degree and am at my forth one now to get my second BA (Elementary Education) ..... which is why I wrote what I wrote.... forgetting that no one in here would have known that about me.

But I digress........ I'm still more qualified than Sarah Palin for the office of VP!

I hope your forth school teaches spelling ;-)

Posted by wolf kotenberg in reply to JimmyCraghorn

i learned spolling in my forth school................

Posted by captfoster2 in reply to JimmyCraghorn

Can I assume that you and Wolf are trying to be funny? I re-read my other posts and unless I'm missing something...... I spelled every word correctly.

Or is there an attempt at humor that I'm not getting? ;-)

I became nervous reading your comment.... of course... spelling here is not a requisite like it is in a classroom... so any misspellings are not that big of a concern..... but repeating ones self might be!  lol

Like here ----> But, as I said in my other post... I'm still more qualified than Sarah Palin for the office of VP!

I was posting about Hannity claiming to be a journalist, which is wrong and can be proven. just read his bio. Universities must protect their issuance of credentials  and call these professional wannabe's at their lies, For they get bolder and bolder if not called out.

Anybody ever seen Hannity's high school annual ?

Posted by captfoster2 in reply to captfoster2

Went to sleep right after I posted the reply above..... I've been up for 15 minutes and came in here to see if any replies were left for me..... and it just dawned on me (by re-reading the thread as to what Mr Gibbs had done to Hannity.....

I was seeing it from the point of view that this guy was able to get Hannity riled up simply for being calm and concise.......

When in actuality that was only half the story.... he was making an example of Hannity and FoxNoise by assuming a 'guilt by association' in that Fox and Hannity must be all anti-Semitic for no other reason than they had an obvious racist/Jew hater appear on their station as a way to show just how bad / dangerous / childish / idiotic 'guilt by association' is when used as a defense.....

In fact..... I remember an episode of Star Trek - The Next Generation when Capt. Picard had to defend a crew member who was under fire by an over zealous female admiral.... that admiral was using 'guilt by association' as well..... and was left in the end with her career in ruins.......  hmmmm

Funny how a decent nights sleep can allow you to see things differently the next day!

Gail Collins' take on guilt by association in today's New York Times ("Clearing the Ayers") is a real treat: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/09/opinion/09collins.html?em=&pagewanted=print

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to wolf kotenberg

One of the phony defenses we've been hearing today is that by impaling Hannity about Martin, it's the same "guilt by association" fallacy that Obama supporters have long been complaining about.

Hardly. It's a false comparison, because Hannity did much more than just "associate" with this bigot. He actually sponsored Martin, by selecting him outright for his eponymous TV show and then making a point to highlight the special appearance.

It is so different in degree with mere "association" that I'm wondering if we are dealing with Hannity apologists who are fools, knaves, both, or something entirely new from hell.

Posted by see it real in reply to carlileb5935

Wolf, Hannity is just as bigoted as Martin, if not more so.  Hannity is not only anti-Semitic, Hannity is also anti-black.

As for your last sentence, I'm going to say that each and every one of the Hannity apologists are all 3, plus a lot more other negative things.  Ed Schultz correctly said that Hannity is a liar and a fraud.

Posted by see it real in reply to wolf kotenberg

We should also ostracise each and every ignorant, vile, uneducated, sociopathic, sub-human fool in this country who watches and thinks like Liar Sean Hannity!

Posted by IRONY 101

HANNITY: Mr. Gibbs, I'm a journalist who interviews people...

I almost threw the remote at the TV when I heard Hannity say that he is a journalist.  Refresh my memory, but didn't FOX and Hannity once say, when it suited another argument in their defense, that Hannity was a conservative commentator and not a journalist? Didn't Hannity just say a couple of months ago that it was his job to smear first Hillary Clinton and then Barack Obama?  Hannity is no journalist and what he does is as far from journalism as you can get. This is what I love about right wing commentators...every show happens in a vacuum. Forget what they said last month or even last week...it's a new, contrived reality every night. And their audiences are too dumb to know the difference...

Posted by Brabantio in reply to IRONY 101

I'll buy that he's a journalist.  He's just one that has no concept of what he's supposed to be doing.  He doesn't understand that journalists aren't supposed to demonize people of a certain ideology.  He doesn't understand that journalists are supposed to give viewers the whole picture about who they're interviewing, so their credibility can be evaluated.  He doesn't understand that journalists are supposed to respect facts.

In this scenario, he's the worst journalist in the country, and has essentially admitted that he should be fired.  So play along.

Posted by edella1793

It was rather amusing watching Hannity receive the "guilt by association" treatment about Martin considering that was the whole point of the segment featuring Martin on Obama about his alleged "radical" indoctrination at the hands of his political mentor William Ayers and others. No actual evidence was presented in that segment. Lots of "possibly"s and "could/may have been"s.

So, Hannity's a schmuck giving a platform to another schmuck to expound about sh!t they just made up. What's new?

If the majority of voters in this country are actually swayed by this garbage they deserve not only scorn but also what's coming to them if they vote for McCain/Palin.

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to edella1793

It wasn't just "association." It was sponsorship. Much worse for Hannity.

The New York Daily News reported yesterday that Fox News personality Sean Hannity introduced Rudy Giuliani at a closed-door $250/head fundraiser in Cincinnati on August 9. Bill Shine, Fox's senior vice president of programming, said Hannity should not be judged according to the standards of journalistic ethics, which speak out against actively helping a candidate in such a manner. "Sean is not a journalist - Sean is a conservative commentator," Shine said. "Sean doesn't hide, and never has hidden, his beliefs from anyone."

Quote from Fox News' Bill Shine, Senior VP of programming.

Sometimes he's a journalist, sometimes he's not.  Always a loser.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to daimajin

Thank you for confirming at least part of what I said above...

Posted by eddy3957 reregistered in reply to daimajin

Sean is not a journalist--Sean is a conservative commentator. ---Bill Shine

That's what I was looking for but didn't find for my post below; one of his bosses saying that he's not a journalist.  (I didn't refresh screen again--I guess I should open another screen on same story-- before I posted.)

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to daimajin

"Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you...."

HANNITY woulden't know a journalist if he tripped over one. HANNITY is nothing more than a PROPAGANDA HACK for the REPUBLICAN PARTY and the NEOCONSERVATIVE cause ,kind of like DR. JOSEF GOEBBLES was for the NAZI PARTY.

In the linked article below, published today on Hannity's resigning with Fox through 2012, the author says:

Hannity doesn't call himself a journalist, but rather a talk show host, which is significant because it frees him to offer opinions when he wants.---Richard Huff

It would be interesting to know did Hannity say this outright to huff, or imply it perhaps, or is he just making an observation from listening to Hannity as a professional reporter on television over the years.

A degree in journalism at this time in history garners from me all the esteem of a degree in used car sales. Degrees in journalism should be dropped from university curricula like unpopular or non-competitive sports from the Olympics. And yes Fox should be called on the carpet for this confession. Pundits have played journalist and confused John Q Public, Suzie Homemaker, Joe Six-pack and apparently themselves for far too long -- all the while dismantling the United States of America.

How could Sean Hannity be a journalist? I thought journalists were all liberals.  ;>)

How could Sean Hannity be a journalist?

Journalists have the ability to reason.  Therefore, Sean Insanity is not a journalist.  :-)

I take back my insults calling Mr. Hannity the Journalist a Sissy. I was unaware of his secret life as a journalist. Now that he is out of the closet, he is to be treated as a journalist. Guess he'll have to discontinue his Stop the Obama Express. A true journalist such as Mr. Hannity should have no problem using his highly refined jourmalistic abilities in stopping that commentary-type nonsense. Next stop.....Limbaugh to declare he also is a journalist.

Posted by see it real in reply to princeofwheels

Calling Hannity a sissy is insulting the good reputation of sissies!

Posted by cpinva

when did hannity become a journalist? while it's not required that one have a degree in journalism to be a journalist, it is expected that you attempt to adhere to the basic ethics of the profession. mr. hannity, to the best of my knowledge, never has.

he, like his bretheren, rush limbaugh, is an "entertainer"

Posted by princeofwheels in reply to cpinva

He said it during his beat-down. And we all know that the Journalist Hannity would never tell a falsehood.

Kudos to Robert Gibbs for outing this FOX slime-bag, Sean Hannity!

Sean Hannity is a racist gay basher.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least in Hannity also hates Jews.

Public condemnation of the attack was not universal. Fox News pundit Sean Hannity was one of (Abner) Louima's biggest critics during the trial, charging that he had fabricated the rape — calling him "lying Louima" — and using interviews with people alleging Louima had past sexual relationships with men to bolster the claim that he had sustained his injuries during a "gay sex act." Hannity stopped using the "lying Louima" epithet after Volpe confessed to sodomizing Louima with the help of another officer.

Black talk radio, specifically "The Black Eagle" Joe Madison http://www.joemadison.com, and Waren Ballantine http://www.thetruthfighters.com, and Mark Thompson, and Clifford Kelley, Perri Small, and Matt McGill http://www.wvon.com, along with black female talk radio host Beverly Smith, have all ripped Liar Hannity and his racist listeners and racist fans for their collective racist anti-black sentiments!

I think Hannity is from Mars!!!...He's so far off on issues that it's not even funny...what a joke...I think the Bush administration is paying him or something..

Posted by worrierking

I doubt that Sean Hannity could even spell the word "journalist".

Why is Allen coombes on that program , he never challenges Hannity, most of the time he says he agrees. They don't want a strong antagonist of the liberal persuasion.Gibbs had that dinosaur Hannity on the ropes and Coomes rescued him by saying Hannity was not anti semetic. Let get rid of Coomes

Posted by wolf kotenberg in reply to luziana711555343

I tend to agree with you. Colmes ended up just being a decoration on the Hannity show. besides, it doesn't appear Mr hannity does need help from anyone, except Mr Ailes.

"Why is Allen coombes on that program , he never challenges Hannity, most of the time he says he agrees"

Answer: Alan Colmes is there to be Hannity's peronsal tank jobber, since Colmes tanks to Hannity and the rest of the lying right wing.

Andi martin is not the first unsavory character Hannity has associated himself with. Google Hal Turner, Hannity had him on his radio show all the time in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Posted by shaggles

I don't think this means Hannity or Fox are anti-semitic and I don't think that's what Gibbs was getting at.  I think he was using their own argument style against them.  If Obama is gulty by association with Ayers then Hannity and Fox are guilty by association with Martin.  The truth is Hannity had Martin on because the right is desperate.  They're going to throw poo at that wall until something sticks and they have know scrupples about whose poo they use.

And let's not forget about the overall dishonesty of Sean Hannity - such as how he and Oliver North use North's bogus charity to fleece his audience of "Great Americans"..... http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/8/6/6165/93743

They are capable of self policing but choose not to. I remember O'Reilly throwing a tizzy fit over the finances of the Red Cross after the 9-11 thing. And o'reiily occupies the same building hannity does.

And o'reiily occupies the same building hannity does.

This building would be more appropriate for both of them:

I have noticed when Hannity has Mr "Contra ' North on the show, he becomes a marine wannabe and huffs and puffs.

Chickenhawk Liar Hannity still hasn't given any type of credible reason for why he avoided joining the military at the time of Desert Storm.

Oh, wait.  Hannity was here yelling "HELL, NO, YOU ALL GO!", just like the rest of the lying flag-scamming chickenhawk conservatives.

But Barack Obama said repeatedly that "they're going to say I have a funny name. They're going to say that I don't look like the guys in the currency. They're going to say, "Oh, by the way, he's black.'"

The only people that I see bringing up race is Barack himself, Kathleen Sebelius, Governor Paterson, and now Michael Dukakis today. All Obama surrogates. Who in the Republican Party is bringing up race? --Sean Hannity

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hannity apparently hasn't seen this campaign ad:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDTJDv4hevU

He probably hasn't been to a campaign rally with "Joe Six-Pack" lately either.

The best thing that can be said about HANNITY is that he is a worthless piece of RIGHT WING GARBAGE.

More than that, Hannity is also an anti-Semite and a racist himself. Not that this is news, either.

Like I sai earlier, not seeing Gibbs bust Hannity goes down as one of the few times I regret not watching the Fox Lies Channel.

Posted by see it real

Seeing the clips of Gibbs busting Hannity goes down as being one of the few times I actually regret not watching the GOP Fox Lies Channel. Roland Martin was correct in caling Hannity a lying Little Archie type fool.

Since when is Hannity a journalist? These right-wing mouthpieces are all alike. If they are criticised for having on racists and fascists they are "journalists." If they are criticised for what they say themselves suddenly they are "commentators" not journalists. It is nothing but a smear machine.

Insannity isn't anti-semetic. He praises Israel, and not also that his co-worker, Colmes is a Jew himself.

But WAIT! Isn't Sean Hannity the same person that said if Obama was around during the Rev. Wright's Anti-American speech or whatever leaked on the net, that that will make him a Racist becasue he didin't do anything about it? But Hannity was with this guy who called Jews' Crooked - was friends with a Neo-Nazi and quite certainly I'm sure he knew. So that there will make Hannity a racist. And not also that, he didn't condemn Ted Nugget's comments about Bill - I mean Hillary and Obama, but he was still slamming Obama about what his pastor said, even after condemning what Wright has said; "but Nugget is a close friend, i could never go against him" - but Sean sure did forgive Imus for what he said last year - "but Imus god down on his knees, lols"

Sean Insannity basically set himself up.

Posted by see it real

I said it before, I will say it again. Quoting Ed Schultz, Hannity is a liar and a fraud. My follow-up quote is that people who watch and like Hannity are also liars and frauds.
