NY Times falsely suggested only Dems refer to GOP plan as "privatization"

Summary: In an article, The New York Times suggested that only Democrats use the label "privatization" to refer to proposals like that supported by Sen. John McCain to "invest a portion of their Social Security payroll taxes in stocks and bonds" -- but many Republicans and conservatives, including McCain himself, have used the term "privatization" to describe such a plan for private Social Security accounts.

I'm just surprised McCain isn't suggesting the current financial meltdown is actually a boon because we'd somehow get more stocks for our social security dollars...

Yes, "dollar-cost averaging" and all that. Unfortunately, some people were hoping to retire some time in the next seven years...

Thank goodness the Dems at least were smart/brave/good enough to not allow these greedy little bastards on Wall Street access to our retirement's future!

I have heard the lame argument that by privatizing SocSec it would miraculously provide us with up to three times the pay back..... as opposed to the paltry amount that is given under government control....

Even under a useless president like Bush.... I would rather trust the government with it than I would a for-profit collection of WallStreet slime!

Knowing what privatization and de-regulation does.... one need not look further than FannieMae/FreddieMac......

SocSec may not be perfect..... but it works!

Now if we can find a way to get the political fingers out of this particular cookie jar....

Just give those bastards an opening. Let them manufacture a crisis, some excuse to shaft us, and they will do anything they can to further redistribute our wealth upward with their privatization schemes.

This is great news, really, and good on MMFA for highlighting it. The Repiglicans are running scared form their own language. Finally the Democrats have stuck to the truth and won an issues branding campaign.

Now take it those dishonest punks on abortion and immigration and put this election to bed.

If the Repugs did what they wanted , they would have put all of us in the poor house . And no way should Paulson be allowed to have control of 700 Billion. Never .

Hurrah!

Never, indeed.

And only brain-dead Republicans and right-wing yokels refer to the Democratic Party as the "Democrat Party".

Exactly, idiots like Rush the Druggie.

But... isn't it privatization?

Oh that's right-- what's in a word?

It doesn't matter who calls it what.  It IS privatization.
