Kilmeade reported SNL's Lorne Michaels has "maxed out on" contributions to Obama, but not Michaels' history of contributions to McCain

Summary: Fox & Friends' Brian Kilmeade stated that Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels has "maxed out on" his contributions to Sen. Barack Obama. But Kilmeade failed to note that, according to FEC filings, Michaels has given at least $5,300 to Sen. John McCain and his Straight Talk America PAC since 2000, including the maximum $2,300 to his presidential campaign.

DOOCY: -- they've got this hit job on John McCain, written by Al Franken, who is running for Senate in the state of Minnesota, not as a Republican. It is extraordinary. I was reading some of the blog comments. How could this possibly be legal? Hit piece? It was hysterical it was satire. But these dumba*ses af Fox and Friends refuse to see that. Did they have a problem with how they made fun of Obama when they did a satire on the 3am ad? I tell you FOX makes me sick.

Kilmeade also leaves out the fact that he's an active registered Republican.

Governor

Kilmeade is an A Hole and a partisan hack.

Dumb as a box of rocks also.

On the other hand, you have to admire the cojones of Fox in complaining about networks being in the tank for candidates.

There's no cajones on F&F.....just a trio of dunderheads doing their masters' bidding. It would actually take some cajones to stand up to the GOP machine that is Faux News but the viewers aren't going to get that from these 3 shills. Spew the right-wing talking points and do what they can to put down Obama and those that support him. Gotta love how Kilmeade only gives the viewers half the truth with regards to Michaels' donations. But then Kilmeade needs the viewers to be kept dumbed down so that the F&F routine will be effective. Can't have the viewers knowing too many facts now.

As far as the very funny SNL skit, Brad Garrett was right about something.....Steve Douchey does need to get a sense of humor.

"It was hysterical it was satire."

Unlike that time John McCain was on SNL

So people can't give money to candidates of their choice? Or are they just upset that when it comes person to person, Obama has way more people contributing than McCain. McCain's only reason for close fundraising is he has all those lobbyists...

Posted by neon desert in reply to snoopy

When the whole of your very being is invested in the contention that there's a scary liberal media out to get you, ANY opportunity to link the media to democrats is vital and must not be missed.

As a result, the fact that Lorne Michaels thinks Obama is the better candidate based on policy isn't viable when the fantasy that Lorne Michaels is part of the liberal media and just hates Republicans is a preferable option to bolster the narrative.

"One candidate for federal office essentially orchestrating talking points on a grand scale against another federal office."

WTF?  Seriously?  Teh St00pid is overwhelming.

OT, but oh-oh! Imagine that, amnesty for white illegal immigrants! Let's see how the right spins this one... (courtesy of think progress)

McCain pledges amnesty for 50,000 illegal Irish immigrants.

In a town hall today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said that as president, he would ensure that 50,000 “illegal” Irish immigrants residing in the United States could find a “path to citizenship:”

There are 50,000 Irish men and women who are in this country illegally at this time, who are hard-working people, who want to become citizens. And I want to assure you that we will enact comprehensive immigration reform, after they do certain things, obviously, give them a path to citizenship in this country as part of an overall immigration reform package.

McCain said that the United States has been “enriched” from “Irish, Italian, Pol[ish]” immigrants. He later included (code for "oops!" my words) “our Hispanic citizenry” in his list.

In right-wing speak, this proposal is called “amnesty.” Previously, McCain ditched his support of immigration reform because of right-wing opposition to “open borders” with Mexico and “amnesty” for undocumented immigrants. Does McCain support making all 9.36 million Hispanic immigrants citizens as well?

Posted by wesley in reply to snoopy

Snoop...here's how I'll spin it...

If you're here illegally...you have to go home...Irish, Mexican, or anyone else.

Secure the borders...enforce existing laws for those hiring illegals...deport any illegals that are caught (jail the second time...Sherrif Joe has offered all the land, tents, and bologna sandwiches necessary).

They didn't all get here overnight so we can't deport tham all over night...but we can sure as hell get started...and that includes illegal Irish.

Posted by snoopy in reply to wesley

So wes, you'll be sending McCain a very stern letter about this? ;)

Posted by wesley in reply to snoopy

I don't believe he needs a stern letter...he already knows how the majority of the public feels about his attempt at amnesty.

The reason why a letter won't work? He is going to continue to quietly support amnesty...except for a few instances like this where he panders for votes. If he's elected he'll be hell bent on amnesty and won't give a damn about the public because he's a one term president at best.

For conservative voters...McCain is a pretty lame choice.

You sir, are a very astute conservative! It's always a pleasure to gage your opinions.

I'm just so tired of having to order my burritos with an Irish brogue.

Lets say for a moment that Lorne Michaels has maxed out his contributions to Obama vs a lesser amount being given to Grampy.......

SO WHAT?

SNL is satire...(sometimes hillarious... sometimes not so much).....  the rightwing seems to think satire consists of making racial/sexist/ethical slurs and then claiming it was all meant to be a joke and that those that are rightfully offended are somehow out of touch with regular folk......

Yeah well.... I'm very glad to be out of touch with what these rightwing fools consider satire!

Unfortunatley, we can not escape their conceived reality as it effects the real reality the rest of us live in!

Posted by snoopy in reply to captfoster2

You have to admit, right wing satire is way funnier. Just look at Dennis Miller... uh, I mean the half hour news hour... er...

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to captfoster2

SNL is satire...

So is FOX News... Or is parody the word I'm looking for?   ;>)

SNL has always been an equal-opportunity ball-buster. During the Clinton Administration (especially when the whole Monica Lewinsky scandal broke), no show lampooned that incident harder than SNL. Not to mention during the Democratic primaries, it was SNL that made fun of the "special treatment" Obama received by the press corp. That sketch was so popular even Hillary Clinton brought it up in one debate with Obama, accusing the press of being too hard on her and easy on Obama.

Oh, I forgot: SNL is "in the tank" for Obama just because they make fun of Palin and McCain! How silly of me to forget such vital information!

Posted by funnymanpants in reply to Preston_P

Not to mention that SNL may have helped Gore get defeated (though not intentionally). Remember the "lock box" skit? People thought Gore so ridiculous. It was actually a good idea. They made Gore look like a bufoon.

By the way, we watched SNL for the first time in months. Man, it really, really sucks. Do the writers realize there are shows like The Daily Show, that humor can be intelligent?

Posted by Preston_P in reply to funnymanpants

Oh, yeah, the show has been terrible for the last ten years. In fact, that sketch of Tina Faye's parody of Sarah Palin was the only fun moment in that entire episode. Their attempt at political humor now seems so clumsy and heavy-handed that there's no subtlety at all in the points they're making. I blame this on the writers as to why it sucks. There's no excuse either for it to suck so bad when SNL writers/actors get more off-time to develop new material than The Daily Show which airs daily.

Sadly, the most SNL can come up with is one funny sketch out of a two-hour long show. Pitiful.

Posted by anotheramerican in reply to Preston_P

I remember watching the very first season and telling others about this late night show on Saturday that was very funny.

I've watched it off and on over the years and find that it does lampoon both sides. I never keep a tally sheet. If it lampoons the right more than the left, who cares?  My guess is that 90+% of it's audience are still the young who stay up for it.

My 27 year old son recorded the Palin/Hillary scetch and I thought it was one of the funniest I had seen since the "lock box" sketches.

Posted by Preston_P in reply to anotheramerican

Agreed. That sketch gives you a small glimpse of how funny SNL can be if they focus writing intelligent, witty material. Sadly, the rest of the show didn't have even 1% the humor of the Faye/Palin sketch.

And the hosts of "Faux & Friends" have maxed out on the number of functioning brain cells, at 12 - between them.

Kilmeade would lose an IQ contest with a bag of hammers, even if all the smart hammers were removed.

And Doocy would come in third.

Posted by mary59 in reply to Easy to refute wingnuts

Add Carlson to the IQ contest.  she says the add is against McCain, although it satirizes anti-Obama ads and doesn't even mention McCain.  Gawd these people are adrift.  Whatta ship of fools.

I LUV when the left gets Fox News and Limbaugh in a lather!! Keep up the offense, don't give in, DON'T BACK DOWN!! That goes for the NYT, too, after the all-out assault by McCain's campaign today on the paper. KEEP IT UP!

Posted by Governor in reply to mk3872

The more McCain attacks the Media, the weaker he looks.

Where are all the Fox babes?

I had Dish Network the past one year and was not getting FNC or MSNBC. As things would have it, I switched to Comcast last week and was getting ready to oogle at all the sexy babes on Fox, let us be frank here, there is nothing else to watch Fox for.

Other than Banderas, all I could glance at so far were:

a guy describing Iranian President as idiotic

older-than-McCain-Hume agreeing with a WOW

some Isralei guys wanting a war with Iran

WTF?

Every election year this type of thing comes up, and everyone points to an individual's contributions to a certain party.  The first time I really started paying attention to this was both 'sides of the aisel' pointing fingers at Enron and claiming they were more supportive of Dems, republicans, etc.  The fact is, monied individuals like to win.  By betting on all horses, you may win every single time.
