U.S. News' Pethokoukis falsely claimed McCain is not calling for carve-out Social Security accounts

Summary: On MSNBC Live, James Pethokoukis claimed that "Senator [John] McCain is not calling for privatizing Social Security. He's talking about perhaps separate accounts, but he's not actually talking about taking your Social Security payments and funneling them in the stock market." In fact, in a March Wall Street Journal interview, McCain reiterated his support for private Social Security accounts that would be funded through existing payroll taxes and could be invested in the stock market.

Yeah, why does everybody always get the war hero wrong? He's for private Social Security accounts that have nothing to do with Social Security. Liberals are such liars.

We lying liberals are very nervous about you oh-so-humane conservatives.  It was your "compassionate conservative" President Bush that wanted to throw out the Social Security program and turn it into "private accounts".  We understand your decades-long hatred of FDR and his "free-loading" policies, like Social Security. So, please try to understand our rather knee-jerk fear at whatever your candidate says about those nasty old socialist programs, particularly those that mean the difference between starvation and a little food on the table.  Sorry if we offended you.

I was being sarcastic.... and wondering how anyone in the media could call a Social Security reform idea not Social Security-- if only because... they...are...calling...it... Social...Security.

Carl:  Sorry, old man.  I was just jerking my knee.  Us 73 year-old curmudgeons get testy sometimes.  But, of course, I ain't running for President.

Liberals are such liars?

I guess Liberals lied about those WMD.

Both you and Donald seem to be missing the sarcasm here.

"He's for private Social Security accounts that have nothing to do with Social Security. Liberals are such liars."

The point would seem to McCain is clearly for privitizing Social Security, while defenders are pretending that he isn't.

Hey, brabantio, cut me a little slack.  I am one year OLDER than Johnny McCain.  Don't I have a right to go a little coo-coo?  At least I know where Spain is.

Of course, everyone misreads things from time to time.

Isn't Spain in Latin America?  I don't remember where, exactly, all those dictatorships seem the same to me.
