Quinn: To feminists, even "a childless feminist who looks like a Bulgarian weightlifter in drag" can be a "real woman"

Summary: On the syndicated radio show The War Room with Quinn & Rose, Jim Quinn stated: "If you don't agree with the feminist scolds, then you're not a real woman -- even if you are a very feminine working mom. But even if you're an actual man, never mind a childless feminist who looks like a Bulgarian weightlifter in drag, you're a real woman solely because you nod your head like a windup clapping monkey every time you read the latest editorial from Ms. Magazine."

Bill Clinton was the first female president? Who verified that?

*shudders*

I thought he was the first black president. Was he/she both?

Posted by tippy in reply to dave

Definitely.

Jim Quinn is starting to make M. Rotten Levin sound like a rational human being.

QQUIN PUNKS FRENCH CUFF BIDEN VP CHOICE.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BULGARIAN WEIGHTLIFETER IN DRAG AND AN EXISTENTIAL AND METAPHYSICAL STATE OF ENLIGHTENMENT?!!!!!

COULD IT BE .... LIPSTICK?!?!?!?!

Posted by neon desert in reply to annes10

Face it:  Us gentlemen will never understand Bulgarian weightlifters.

We work hard every day to give them everything they need - pretty unitards, a good gym, we put food on the training table...  And even with all that, they're still not happy.  They say they don't feel like they're accomplishing something.  WTF?  What I want to know is who's been filling their silly heads with these ridiculous ideas?  What happened to the days when a Bulgarian weightlifter was happy just raising barbells, doing the cleaning and jerking, pressing, and maybe working on their snatch a little?  That sounds like accomplishing something to me.  After a hard days work, putting up with a demanding boss and irrational customers, we just want to go to the gym for a little relaxation, but they're immediately in our ear whining about how we didn't notice that they'd put on a little extra weight...

Nope, guys.  We'll NEVER figure out Bulgarian weightlifters.  So it's a good thing we got a guy like this Quinn feller to keep them in line.

Poor dumb guy. He doesn't seem to know that feminine and feminist are two different words. Reminds me of Spinal Tap. "What's wrong with bein' sexy?" SexIST. SexIST."

As l said on the previous post, there is a hidden tenth level in Dante's Divine Comedy so scary that he deliberately left it out. It is the level where you are strapped to a chair and are forced to listen to right wing radio and your fingers can just about brush the off switch but cannot turn  the radio off. These guys are a prime example.

Posted by mescal in reply to ukobserver

Ah,man... now, how am I supposed to sleep tonight after THAT image being introduced to my mind?

Posted by IRONY 101

A few random thoughts...

When I watch and listen to Barack Obama I am pretty much oblivious to his race. When I see and hear Hillary Clinton her gender is irrelevant. I see a serious and formidable politician. When I watch and listen to Sarah Palin I see and hear female affectation. Girlish inflections in her voice, coy facial expressions...someone who has learned to use femininity to full advantage in small-town politics. But on a national stage her demeanor stands out as affectatious and shallow...at least in my opinion. Is this what Jim Quinn idealizes? A woman who "acts" like a woman? The real question shouldn't be whether a woman in politics or in the  work force is feminine. It's whether she's competent. But you have to ask yourself if there are ambitious women who use "femininity" to compensate for a lack of substance to achieve their goals. Is Quinn okay with that?

Posted by mary59 in reply to IRONY 101

Good questions.  In my experience, there are competent men and women who simply do their jobs without fanfare:  then there are the showboaters, who lack substance but make a big outer show (jesse ventura comes to mind)  Having an excess of personality sometimes can hide incompetence and pettiness.

Posted by ultrasanktpauli in reply to mary59

here here! maybe all those odd 'girly ticks' were the reason she looked so bad on ABC. well, that and the fact that she didn't know anything.

That stuff might work when you're in charge but i think it works against you when you are playing defense.

Posted by JLyons in reply to ultrasanktpauli

She can see Russia from her porch.

Posted by ultrasanktpauli in reply to JLyons

which is helpful. lots and lots of saber rattling coming from Siberia.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to JLyons

She can see Russia from her porch.

And on Sundays she and her kids shoot at Russian wolves from their front yard.  ;>)

Posted by ultrasanktpauli in reply to IRONY 101

are those 'red' haired wolves?

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to ultrasanktpauli

Well...their hair turns red when they start bleeding.

Posted by onionhead in reply to IRONY 101

It's nice to see that she takes a break from killing polar bears and shooting down any money going to the Special Olympics.

Posted by SueEld in reply to IRONY 101

As a female I find Sarah Palin disturbing and the whole pick condesending to women in general.  Typical of McBush however.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to SueEld

Enlighten me, as a male...as a female do you perceive any of the same feminine "affectation" in Sarah Palin to which I alluded? And, for the record, I'd be just as critical of a "pretty boy" too.

Posted by SueEld in reply to IRONY 101

Irony , I think you were right on target. I have major issues with her girlish aw shucks, whats the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull bs, "lipstick", in that ridiculous voice. She really is an actor, this is all part of a GOP script.

Posted by ultrasanktpauli in reply to SueEld

i find it creepy, off the mark, and insulting. At the very least the Obama team talks to you like you are an adult. i start to think 'elite' is code for 'adult'.

Posted by tippy in reply to ultrasanktpauli

That's it exactly.  Everyone in the McCain camp is hamming it up just a little too much.  It's not just Palin - all during the GOP convention speeches it was as if they were addressing slightly slow children.  Exaggerated facial expression, moronic jokes, and "drill baby drill".  It was thoroughly insulting.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to SueEld

Thank you...I was hoping it wasn't just me.  ;>)

Thank you...I was hoping it wasn't just me.  ;>)

Posted by tippy in reply to IRONY 101

But don't you think the males in the party are caricatures also?  I mean, Palin looks as if she's Liddy Dole in training, sure, but Giulani, Romney, Graham, and McCain all come off as stock characters also.  They're like old-time movie actors or TV advertisers - the accents are a little too fake, smiles a little too smarmy, the color is faded, and the whole image is just a little creepy and unsettling to a modern eye.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to tippy

I agree. They are as corny and predictable as an old Ronald Reagan movie. Whenever I see a Republican event I picture an elderly couple sitting in front of their TV nodding in agreement, comforted in the belief that it is indeed 1955 again.

Posted by tippy in reply to IRONY 101

Yes, an elderly white couple in front of their TV.... The only black man they could drum up to speak was Michael Steele, who isn't even in office anymore, and the women were cookie-cutter stereotypes. Speaking of which, I suppose Carly Fiorina is free to play checkers with Phil Gramm for the next 6 weeks now.

IRONY:"And, for the record, I'd be just as critical of a "pretty boy" too."

whenwere you on the record complaining about John Edwards???

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to MissDee

MissDee, I think you may be confused as to the meaning of "pretty boy". Quite a Cal Ripkenesque streak of cluelessness you've got going there.

Let's step it up a notch, MD. Even some of the most incompetent trolls here get the broken clock allowance in being right occasionally. I don't think I've ever seen you demonstrate even a remote grasp of what's going on in the reality -based community.

Posted by eweston8542983 in reply to MissDee

The only people trying to paint Edwards as a pretty boy were those who had the same ideas about him that that a few here have about Palin.

She is playing to her attractivness, selling it. If Edwards had made any effort to use this tactic I didn't see it.

It is kind of what you want to use as an attack point on a dem. Either the grooming is excessive, or too drab, wrong colors, wrong material, or dosn't he care what he looks like? You'll always find something to complain about a dem's image and act as if it was of great importance.

I assume you voted for shrub and will for the same reasons/feelings vote republican again. Your happy with how its gone so far and look hopefully for more of the same then?

As a female I find Sarah Palin disturbing and the whole pick condesending to women in general.  Typical of McBush however.

To me, it's reminiscent of Poppy Bush's nominating Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court.  That was the BEST African-American he could find? Pul-LEASE!!!!!

As a white male, I was offended at the pick of Dan Quayle.

As a human being,  I was offended by the selection of Dan Quayle.

Posted by Lorelei in reply to wzwriter

To me it was reminiscent of Clinton's intern pick of who was going to give him a bl0w j0b in the white house.

Has dumb blonde written all over it.  (I wonder if they dyed their hair?)

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to IRONY 101

Well said, Irony. Criticism of Palin isn't happening because she's a woman, it's because she's a girl. Apparently, an easily manipulated, phony, snarky Jr. high school girl with low self-esteem.

Posted by nilo9697

Jim Quinn has a sense of humor--something that his Media Matters critics obviously lack.

Posted by juliajayne in reply to nilo9697

"The academic feminist left has scared the dickens out of the mainstream men and women for so long, the liberal establishment is terrified to contradict feminists"

I really wish Quinn would leave Charlie Dickens out of this whole affair. But you're right, he is a Pip, although I don't have Great Expectations of him. I rather think he lives in a Bleak House of cards. I think he's gonna come upon Hard Times

Posted by tippy in reply to nilo9697

Rabid bat**** crazy hate speech read badly off index cards is humorous?

That is a pretty good summation.  What does a bully hate more....another bully.

"But even if you're an actual man, never mind a childless feminist who looks like a Bulgarian weightlifter in drag"

My first thought on reading this was "are they talking about Ann Coulter?"  Seriously (except for the weightlifter, and feminist).

Posted by princeofwheels

I wonder if NOW is hearing this stuff from this jagoff. Maybe they should get involved, not for their organization but for Radio Rosie who just sits beside the Sexual Harrasser Quinn (google has it) and takes it. Could it be that he has control over her?

The main thing to remember about Quinny is that he reads most of his "show". Makes me wonder where he found this on the internets?

Tomorrow between 6-7, he will comment about MMFA but will not explain himself. He will also equate the bailout of AIG to eliminating free speech on the radio..But before then, I will call one of the few advertisers he has and file a complaint with them. Or, I'll have a FEMALE do it.

Posted by Jurgan

P.S: Feminists refuse to accept reality?  Wasn't it Bush administration people who derided the "reality-based community?"

Posted by IRONY 101

Check out this article about how Sarah Palin, as soon as she was elected Mayor of Wasilla, redecorated her office, at city expense and without authority in the manner of a bordello. Also, I like the part at the end which even questions her high school basketball career. Locals believe she was given playing time because she sucked up to the coach...

Posted by Conchobhar in reply to IRONY 101

The point here, (concerning S.P.) I think, should be John McCain's judgment/integrity, which is called into question by picking a person about whom he knew so little.  The McCain campaign is also displaying some of the worst habits of the Cheney/Bush Junta, in its aggressive campaign to stonewall the Troopergate investigation.  Facrissakes, they're not even in office yet, and they're already misusing "executive privilege."

Posted by foghornleghorn in reply to Conchobhar

Gramps selected Barbie after just one look at her big brown eyes.  Just like Bush did with Putin.

har har, soulmates indeed.

I like the Sarah barracuda name she coined for herself.  And, really, 'I'm the mayor, I can do whatever I want, until the courts say I can't!?!?'... Holy Moses!! She's mini-bush (minus the part where he cares what the courts say)!

boyisayboy,

I'm troubled by your subliminal phalic reference in the background of your picture.

What are you saying, behind every Bulgarian female weightlifter there must be an exploitive male sexist or lighthouse pumpin iron?  Oh, the bigotry!!!

Posted by proudconservative in reply to vysotsky

sadsackrussiandylanwannabe,

The virtues of Dr. Laura praised here on Media Matters (very little)!

Can't wait to hear what she has to say about other topics discussed here on MM(vl).  Look forward to your future links....

Posted by vysotsky in reply to proudconservative

Congratulations -- that's the point.  Dr. Laura's criticism of Palin is based exclusively on her motherhood and womanhood. Contrast that to the criticism of Palin by feminist liberals who take issue with her political positions and qualifications.

Posted by princeofwheels in reply to vysotsky

Vyso...Congrats to you..seems that ProudConman/girl, has fallen into your trap. PC, has developed Fingermuteness disease. Silence is perfect.

I'm troubled by the issue of "ugly" women.   Even the people that decry what this man has said, laugh and post pictures of women that are not beauty queens. Sick Bastards!

When will people learn that beauty is only skin deep.

Uphold these "uglies" as beautiful people, stop your derision.

Down with beauty queens!

Femi-nazi's unite, replace a queens' anti-wrinkle cream today with goats wart cream.

Start wearing lipstick even if it looks like a pig in lipstick.  Run up and kiss every politician you meet, every radio host you meet.  Put some lipstick on the real pigs.

While it is gratifying to see that so many people on these posts have the intelligence to see Gov. Palin for what she is, keep in mind that most of us are in the same choir. We might have a couple of members who pass gas from time to time, we are still talking to each other. Who else reads MMFA? I must say that other web sites are finally doing their jobs and reporting on this very dangerous woman. (Oh, is that "sexist"?) It is her

personal views about women and her own brief role in politics and how to govern that show her up, not the "attacks" by the mean old media or the Dems.

Why am I thinking of "Borat"?
