Hannity misled about several Obama foreign policy positions to ask: "[D]oes that sound like a guy that has the experience to be the commander in chief?"

Summary: On Hannity & Colmes, Sean Hannity made misleading assertions about Sen. Barack Obama's positions on civilian deaths in Afghanistan, military spending, and nuclear weapons, and then asked, "[D]oes that sound like a guy that has the experience to be the commander in chief?"

Lanny Davis was about ready to tell Hannity to pull his head out of the a$$ and start asking questions that made more sense instead of sporadit incomplete quotes out of context ..

Posted by mescal in reply to wolf kotenberg

Lanny did his job as Faux News latest milktoast 'liberal Democrat.' He is not there to confront propagandistic hacks like Insannity when they twist the truth into something unrecognisable. He is there to either meekly contest them... getting trampled by the unwavering certainty and numerical superiority of his wingnut coworkers... or, more often, to AGREE with them.

It makes you wonder how much a human soul is going for these days on the open market.

So what is this low life Hannity saying, that civilians aren't dying? There is no collateral damage?

If we plan on doing better than the Soviets did in Afghanistan we had damned sure better understand the whole hearts and minds thing.

WK, that always drives me crazy, like so many of the things on Hannity's "magic list" that he always ends up reading from. Why does nobody (I mean the "Democratic strategists" and other foils he has on) ever ask him, "Sean, do you think that no civilians are killed by our military?" Why is a true statement such an affront to Hannity, and why doesn't he ever get asked this question?

This has replaced his other well-worn quote-- that John Kerry said our troops shouldn't be breaking into civilians' houses in the middle of the night and terrorizing them. The logical response to this is "Do you disagree? You think our troops should be doing this?"

It's amazing and depressing that there's an audience for this clown, other than people like me who watch him occasionally to laugh at him. Does the average Fox viewer not have that part of the brain that causes you to ask the obvious and logical follow-up question to Hannity's boneheaded script?

I know these people.  Some of them are not bad people.  But NO, they don't have (or use) that part of their brain.  And as they see [electing republicans] as something intrinsicly good, they would argue that the ends justifies the means, even if they did.

Hannity lying....that is definitely different.

no way... not the dreaded "double pointy finger technique"

have some humanity man!

Posted by ukobserver in reply to ultrasanktpauli

Do not underestimate the power of the double finger technique!!

Look how well it went in 2006. Just when you thought that republicans could actually survive the double pointy fingers went up in it's defence of Santorum and Allen and look how well that went!!

Posted by Pyrrhonist in reply to ukobserver

The fall of Allen and Santorum was enormous - a "jump the shark moment" and a (small) reality check. I think the defeat of these two W wannabees was a watershed event. It gave  the Democrats hope and took out two of the 2008 contenders. Maybe the giant pendulum of public opinion has begun the swing back at last.

Hannity looks so much like Nelson in "The Simpsons". I bet when Nelson grows up, he'll be a right-wing talking head just like Hannity.

Posted by neon desert in reply to fawltylogic

Whoops!  Little typo there.  You meant to write "When hannity grows up, he'll be just like Nelson".

At least, that makes more sense to me.

Make no mistake, Sean Hannity is NOT an idiot. He is a valuable shill for the Right Wing, and an effective one, too. No matter how outraged we get, we have NO effect on the likes of Hannity. MILLIONS of moronic viewers listen to his hate-filled tripe every day! It is that segment of the population that will decide the outcome of this election. Not the (choke, LIBERALS) who sit around sputtering and wringing their hands about how "UNfair and UNbalanced" the media is. Faux is in bed with the Conservatives who are out to destroy the United States. Osama bin Laden is thrilled with these traitors that work for the media. Everything, but EVERYTHING, Bush and Co. have done to this country is at the behest of our mortal enemies. In former times, they would be HANGED for treason.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to donaldmaddog5642

Sorry, but Hannity IS very much an idiot...an effective one, no doubt, but still an idiot. His success as a right wing propagandist lies with his audience...an equally idiotic bunch driven by fears, prejudices and far right wing ideology. Credit Hannity and his ilk with making the dumbing down of America a value.

Posted by onionhead in reply to donaldmaddog5642

"Sean Hannity is NOT an idiot. He is a valuable shill..."

The two terms are not mutually exclusive.

Posted by peebs755 in reply to onionhead

If hannity is not an idiot, the he's one of the most soulless evil people I've ever witnessed.

If he's not an idiot, then he knows what he's saying is lies and falsehoods and chooses to say it anyway for power and money. Pure evil.

Posted by neon desert in reply to peebs755

Oh no, he's an idiot who recognizes that he's lying.  He knows that.  What makes him an idiot is that he doesn't (despite what he says) come up with his own talking points.  I'd honestly be surprised if he does ANY research at all.  He has folks who dig up facts for him, which they then type onto one of his 8X11 sheets that you him with, he spends about 1/2 hour show-prep time reading them (I don't know if rumors about "with the help of a tutor" are true or not) and goes on air.

You'll hear him repeat the same tired phrases for weeks ("lowest unemployment in last 40 years") exactly the same way, because he can't form an original sentence that makes any sense.  He knows their lies, which is why when challenged on one of them, he immediately goes back and spends the remainder of the segment repeating the same list, denying the guest adequate time to respond.

No, have no doubt.  He is an idiot.  Have I mentioned that hannity  is

the.

Documented fact.

Posted by annes10 in reply to donaldmaddog5642

Mad dog, you are correct when you say that: MILLIONS of moronic viewers listen to his hate-filled tripe every day!

But these are the loyal minions ... they will never vote democratic, even from the grave. You are right, there have to be enough voters to counteract their votes, but ... there is no way of changing that now, except by attrition. It almost wnet dem in '00, almost again in '04, and it can happen in '08 if ...

Posted by BottleBlonde in reply to annes10

A couple of days ago I heard some rightie commentator say that tactics that Obama was using and ads that Obama was showing weren't going to win him any Republican votes.

Like that meant something!

Obama's not trying to influence the brain-dead. It's not Republicans who help elect Democrats in tight races. It's independents and moderates who get influenced.

So the rightie commentator saying that Obama's tactics weren't going to influence Republicans was just another example of conservative misinformation - it made Obama look worse than he deserved to look. He's not trying to influence diehard conservatives. It's a strawman argument to say that he's failing in that effort, because he's not making that effort!

Posted by annes10 in reply to BottleBlonde

Exactly right. The dems are registering tens of thousands of new voters, while republican voter rolls are shrinking, either by attrition or ... possibly because some (clearly not many) republicans are finally questioning why they've blindly supported republican policies that have fleeced the taxpaying public (their grandchildren, not themselves) and brought the country to its knees economically and morally (I understand the immorality of the Bush doctrine, even if Sarah Palin does not).

It would be great if republicans could open their minds and question their long-standing support of Bush's failed policies ... but I'm not holding my breath.

And Hannity? is just a paid neocon mouthpiece.

A useful idiot is how Ol Joe would call it.

Though he has managed to become his own economic miracle. His customers kind of like any other type of addict. They cannot concieve of life without what he gives them on a regular basis.

Posted by jbraskin

How shocking.  Hannity misrepresenting Senator Obama and sounding like a complete idiot.  Archie Bunker lives.

Posted by BlagoBoy

Barack Obama lacks the experience, judgement and common sense to be commander-in-chief and shouldd go back to being a community organizer.  It's obviously the only job he is qualified to do.

Posted by jjcomet514 in reply to BlagoBoy

Unlike McCain, who doesn't know when the surge occurred, supported Bush in 98% of his Senate votes over the past 8 years, has changed his position on virtually every issue since his campaign started in order to pander to his base, and now is determined to show everyone in America that he is a serial liar. This is a man who tells us how he's going to change Washington, - he's been there a quarter century and apparently still thinks Washington is "broken" - yet apparently he hasn't done shit in 26 years to make the federal government any better. Yet you'll gladly vote for him because...?

Posted by Easy to refute wingnuts in reply to jjcomet514

John W. McCain is an instrument of change. Unfortunately, the only ting he has changed is John W. McCain.

If McCain ever was a maverick, the McCain of today would kick his ass into compliance with 95% of the Administration's programs.

Seannie the Sissy has maintained that it is his job to derail the Obama (word of the week) Express...previously it was the Clinton Express. His JOB..wow, if Obama wins does that mean that he will be fired or resign in disgrace. NOPE...he'll just be another man who failed in his job. Go, Seannie, Go. Like every Con, he will admit something went wrong, take full responsibility and pay no price for his errors. Sort of like Bush, Cheney, Rummy and the Neo-Cons who are now pushing Palin/McSammie.

Obama has said he wants 100,000 more troops and wants to invade Pakistan.

That doesn't sound like cutting the military to me.

Posted by peebs755 in reply to leatherhelmet

Provide the quote. You can't.

Posted by peebs755 in reply to peebs755

See. typical right wing make some unsubstantiated statement, and act like its fact. It actually sounds fun. Let me try.

John McCain said he wants to stop wasting money on veterans causes, and put it where it matters. in the coffers of war profiteers.

Wow, that was kind of fun.

Posted by neon desert in reply to peebs755

No, you don't get it.

You're NOT supposed to say something that's TRUE.

Try again...

Posted by annes10 in reply to peebs755

Peebs, it is true that Obama wants to get OBL, to bring him to justice. That is something I've been wanting, too, for 7+ years now. And I think most Americans (except Republicans, for some reason) also want that.

From listening to Obama's speeches and reading at his website, my take on his plans is to wrap up things in Iraq then on Afghanistan, with emphasis on arresting OBL. I don't recall ever hearing Osama advocate increasing the number of troops deployed, I thought he wanted to decrease the number of troops, and cut the deployment times from 15 months to a year or less.

The troll you are responding to is most likely spewing lies from one of those viral GOOPER emails going around.

Posted by annes10 in reply to leatherhelmet

I suppose you can give a citation? I won't hold my breath. In the meantime, the evidence is stacking up that McCain is a big liar

Posted by eweston8542983

You don't sound like your very close to creditable to me. Your consistency in this essential marker is amazing.

Sides its too late Shrub is already invading them, adding up large amounts of collateral damage, lying about it, and just generally putting the cherry on the top of his icecream sunday of acts against the world he hates so much.

Hannity is one of the worst, if not the foremost, offenders (purveyors, if you will) of smear broadcast journalism. He has never faced any professional, or statistically significant rhetorical accountability on this regard. (Ketih Olbermann notwithstanding)

This is a perpetual shame.
