MSNBC's Brewer and PolitiFact's Adair did not note that McCain falsely claimed Palin "sold" jet on eBay and "made a profit"

Summary: On MSNBC, PolitiFact.com's Bill Adair said that Gov. Sarah Palin's claim to have put a jet airplane owned by the state of Alaska on the Internet auction site eBay was true and noted that "[t]he state was unsuccessful selling it on eBay, and they had to hire an aircraft broker to sell it, ended up selling it for considerably less than the state had paid for it." However, neither Adair nor Contessa Brewer noted that Sen. John McCain falsely claimed that Palin "took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor and sold it on eBay. And made a profit."

How to Sell Your Gubernatorial Airplane

Posted by Karen Tumulty | Comments (189) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This

Ed Rendell has some advice for Sarah Palin on that whole eBay thing. Turns out there's sort of a Craigslist for airplanes:

Pennsylvania is preparing to turn over the keys to one of its two executive planes to an Illinois company that has agreed to buy it for $1.375 million – above its appraised value and several hundred thousand more than the state paid for it 16 years ago.

Palin, the governor of Alaska, tried to win points as a reformer by declaring at last week's GOP convention that upon taking office, she put her state's jet on eBay. Turns out, she did just that, but in the end, it was sold through a broker for $2.1 million - less than the $2.7 million that Alaskan taxpayers paid for it under a past administration.

"It just goes to prove that a high-flying but inexperienced politician is no match for a down-to-earth professional when it comes to selling state planes," said Chuck Ardo, Gov. Rendell's press secretary.

Unlike Palin, state officials in Harrisburg chose not to bother with the online auction route after Rendell decided in April to sell the plane, a 1981 Beech King Air 200, in a cost-cutting move.

The state wanted to avoid eBay's commission - upward of 2 ½ percent of the sale price - so it instead advertised the plane on two aeronautical Web sites. The total cost: less than $700. It drew four bids, with the highest coming from Midwest Underground Inc., an East Moline, Ill. pipeline contractor.

Will America's Hockey Mom put AF1 on eBay if that "heartbeat" comes to the POW?

Perhaps e-bay is where John McCain sold his soul to the devil...  ;>)

Sarah Palin's grip has been measured to be 5 times more powerful than the jaws of a beaver trap.

If this is typical of the "thought processes" at the RNC, things are looking better and better for my side every day......

I think MMFA should remove this story and desist from running any further stories in any way concerning Sarah Palin. She is a darling princess and saying anything mean about her makes baby Jesus cry.

Isn't that just adorable how she sold that jet on e-bay...and for a profit!  ;>)

...and then flew it by herself to deliver it to the buyer.  She then took a dog sled team back to Anchorage to save gas.  Of course, this was in January, so she travelled in complete darkness, navigating by the stars.

During one of the many polar bear attacks along the way, she lost her knife in a 20 foot snow drift, but quickly fashioned a gun out of pine branches, an empty bean can, and some husky dung.  The 9 polar bear pelts she had claimed as the spoils of battle slowed her progress, but she knew that the orphan children in Nome desperately needed blankets, so she pressed on through the blizzard with her valuable cargo, stopping only briefly to deliver her baby.

When the dogs became fatigued about 200 miles out of Anchorage, Sarah gently loaded them onto the sled, freshened up her mascara and lipstick, and then took the harness herself.

Anchorage saw her glide into town that evening, her glasses iced over and her hair matted with polar bear blood.  But alas, she knew there was no time for the heroes welcome awaiting her.  Leaving the dogs, baby, and pelts to the delirious crowd lining the snow-covered streets, she dashed past the Welcome banners and into the auditorium, where she waltzed up on stage, adjusted her toque, and took second place in the Miss Perma-frost pageant.

LOL...great satire.  :>)

I just read in my morning paper that Sarah Palin will continue to campaign alongside John McCain. Usually, the Presidential and VP candidates split up to campaign separately in order to cover more territory. Not so with Palin/McCain. She would probably draw bigger crowds than McCain alone so I'm sure they don't want to be embarrassed. But the real reason is that when campaigning with McCain all Palin has to do is deliver the same introductory speech and McCain's staff shields her from the press. They are afraid to put her out there alone. Why? Because she'll get eaten alive. And yet they say she's ready to be VP (or President) in a heart beat? I can't wait for the VP debate...

Excellent point. If Caribou Barbie split off to campaign on her own, Grampy's crowds would evaporate. The dynamic between these two is exactly like a rich old fart and his young trophy wife. Oh, wait..... Grampy already has one of those.....but she's getting old now. Hmmmmm......

It was listed four times. Has anyone calculated the eBay fees for a million dollar plus listing?

It had to cost at least $25,000 just to list the damned thing.

But once in a while, Ebay sends you those "25 cent listing- one day only!" emails, so maybe she took advantage of one of those.

Before they got their high speed DSL access, Sarah Palin used to deliver the e-mail to the Inuits by kayak, faster than dial-up.

Or she just could have placed an ad in the Thrifty Nickel.....

Sarah Palin is a liar and a phony. How about them apples?

Posted by neon desert in reply to JLyons

Though her ruby red lips never touched an apple because of the lessons learned from the bible, Sarah Palin was responsible for bringing apple orchards to the midwest, once canoeing down the Ohio river and fighting off polar bears in order to deliver a load of seeds.

McCain can probably be forgiven for not being up on the story since he'd only known Palin about 3 days at that time.  I wonder why no one in the MSM has bothered to point out that there was nothing unique about putting the jet up on Ebay?  The state of Alaska routinely uses Ebay to liquidate assets.  Palin is hardly the maverick she makes herself out to be.

Posted by Easy to refute wingnuts in reply to shaggles

Actually, Palin put an '82 Maverick on eBay. The Maverick of 72 is her running mate.

Posted by neon desert in reply to Easy to refute wingnuts

Hard to tell the difference, really.  Both blow smoke when they run.

Posted by see it real in reply to Easy to refute wingnuts

Which means Hate Hag Palin isn't a maverick, but instead, a Maverick saleswoman.  Another Palin lie.

Posted by proudconservative

I believe that Speaker (Pinapple Queen) Pelosi made the government buy it so she and her entourage could jet home and back forth in proper form.  Wasn't it an earmark?

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to proudconservative

If it was an earmark, then wouldn't Sarah "Earmark Queen" Palin have kept it for her own state?  If we are getting into the discussion of who loves earmarks more, don't you realize you're gonna lose?

Alaskans got more earmarks per capita than any state in the country over the past two years.

Caribou Hate Hag Liar Sarah Palin LIED about selling the plane on e-Bay, among other things, and the corporatist conservative Republican Party controlled news media won't call ehr a liar, because they want Liar McCain-Liar Palin elected, AND because they have no spine!

It's obvious that BOTH Brewer and Adair are right wing Republicans themselves, and they want McCain-Palin elected, too.
