In text-message poll on McCain's speech, MSNBC offered only four positive responses

Summary: In a text-message poll asking what Sen. John McCain's acceptance speech "accomplished the most," MSNBC gave viewers only positive responses to choose from. By contrast, when MSNBC asked viewers the week before what Sen. Barack Obama's acceptance speech "accomplished the most," one of the options given was, "Attacked John McCain."

I saw this right before heading to work and thought to myself, are those really my only options? How long before some Mccain shill is using the results as a talking point?

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to Semiauto

Yeah, just the fact that the poll prompted only positive responses is proof of its shilling purpose. How much more blatant can they get?

Posted by RoberttheP

Because McCain did not attack Obama in his speech last night.

Posted by wolf kotenberg in reply to RoberttheP

Yes he did. Absolutely when he said he had scars and obama didn't. A direct insultive charge that Obama did not serve in the military.

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to wolf kotenberg

Don't forget the 'if you think you're born into the world to save the country' line, too.

Posted by jeter2 in reply to wolf kotenberg

Yes he did. Absolutely when he said he had scars and obama didn't. A direct insultive charge that Obama did not serve in the military.

I don't think so Wolf. As you can see by the text below, McCain was talking about working in a bipartisan way & how he'd done it, & got a few "scars" from crossing the aisle, whereas Obama doesn't have similar political scars.

Again and again, I've worked with members of both parties to fix problems that need to be fixed. That's how I will govern as President. I will reach out my hand to anyone to help me get this country moving again. I have that record and the scars to prove it. Senator Obama does not.

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to jeter2

So McCain was lying, then?  (Obama has worked and co-sponsored bills w/ Lugar, Coburn, Hagel)

Or was he just using figurative language to exaggerate his position?

Posted by jeter2 in reply to Kyle_Broflovski

Kyle, I was simply correcting something Wolf wrote. I'm not voting for McCain, nor am I defending him. Wolf posted mis-information. You know how that works right?

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to jeter2

Jeter-

I was simply attacking McCain for lying to the American people.  You know how that works, right?

Posted by jeter2 in reply to Kyle_Broflovski

Of course I do. But the point here was that Wolf claimed that what McCain said had to do with Obama's lack of a military record. It did not. Simple.

Posted by wolf kotenberg in reply to jeter2

I don't believe he really has political scars when he holds the record for missed votes in Congress, including the recent GI bill.

Posted by Lorelei in reply to jeter2

No, it didn't but it certainly "implied" it.

Posted by jeter2 in reply to Lorelei

My God, I leave the text. And it's there in black & white, & still you argue? McCain was not implying a damn thing about Obama's lack of military service. Wolf was wrong. McCain was speaking about having the battle "scars" he'd gotten because he'd crossed the aisle on certain issues.. I would never ordinarily suggest you guys have a reading comprehension problem, but it's either that or you're just being disingenuous.

Whatever.

Posted by MoonbatYouBet in reply to jeter2

Agreed.  However McCain was trying to imply that somehow his work in the government was equivalent to his POW time.

Which is more disgusting- The cheapening of what happened to him in Vietnam by making such a comparison or the elevation of Congressional service to such a level?

Posted by wolf kotenberg in reply to jeter2

He was implying, if not outright stating, the POW experience ( I was a broken man )  prepared him for congressional service and quoting a sentence without noting the context of the speech, definitaly skews the meaning of the whole text. And he did mention Obama by name in the same sentence he mentioned scars. McCain has been in congressional service , without interruption, for 30 years that is not indicative of scarring. Unless the speech was meant to be a Rah Rah Hurrah feel good moment. McCain may have voted with the democrats here and there but in the bigger socio-political issues he sided on the safe side with the president, or skipped the vote.

Posted by Governor in reply to RoberttheP

What does your opinion that McCain did not attack Obama have to do with this?

Posted by RoberttheP in reply to Governor

What the F are you talking about?

Posted by Governor in reply to RoberttheP

It was a simple question.

Posted by pointofview in reply to Governor

His opinion is the fact this time.  McCain did not attack Obama.

Posted by Governor in reply to pointofview

“I’m not running for president because I think I’m blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need.”

Whatever you say.

Posted by historygeek001 in reply to Governor

Gov:

Don't disturb the narrative!  You aren't supposed to disturb them with facts; facts have a well-known liberal bias!

Posted by Governor in reply to historygeek001

Some would rather win with ignorance than lose their ignorance.

Posted by JLyons in reply to pointofview

POV you are correct, McCain did not attack. But his venomous Palin and Rudy the "one who got rid of the urine smell" did all the dirty work.  Look for th GOP attack machine and FOX to continue the dirty work this week and weeks to come.

Posted by RABBITLUVR in reply to RoberttheP

Oh really? What were you doing during the speech... thinking about that Sarahcuda-lady?

Posted by my4cents1172 in reply to RoberttheP

Did Obama attack McCain in his speech?

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to my4cents1172

Of course he did!  It was implicit in his acting all 'snobbish' and 'uppity' on the podium, couldn't you tell?  Just being a Hollywood celebrity is attacking McCain, who has always hated the Hollywood elite, and has never once associated with them.

Posted by my4cents1172 in reply to Kyle_Broflovski

Assuming a /sarcasm at the end of your post.

If McCain did not attack Obama, Obama did not attack McCain, period.

This article by MM is indeed an example of Conservative misinformation.

Posted by 1st Republic 14th Star in reply to RoberttheP

You can't have Palin, Romney and Giuliani take the podium to mock Obama on one day, McCain to ask for bipartisanship on the next day, and then claim that McCain didn't attack Obama.  As the nominee for president, McCain gets to ensure that the other speakers are dissemminating the messages that he wants to convey.

Posted by tommy

It is rather a head scratcher that MSNBC, where many of it's prime time lineup openly pushes Obama, would have such different text message polls.  Startling catch by MMFA.

Posted by RABBITLUVR in reply to tommy

Startling... how?

Posted by Lorelei in reply to RABBITLUVR

well its that "liberal" media bias showing, i guess.

You know the one where the libs get the unfair advantage??????

Posted by RABBITLUVR in reply to Lorelei

Well, the advantage really isn't all that 'unfair' if one were to apply some real-world thinking here. McSurge looked like he was gonna keel over during that speech and he looked a bit flustered and even irritated when the goon squad cranked up their 'USA! USA! USA!' garbage in response to the 'Ground Noise and Static' (Pat. Pend.). What a yawner that speech was. Sounded more like a farewell address.

As for Failin' Palin... well, she may have won the hearts and the you-know-whats of those idiots in the hall and the basement-dwellers out there in teevee land but aside from that... yawn as well. A Bushbot wrote that speech so definitely a no-go on the credibility chart for sure. She may wanna consider getting a voice-box transplant though... god, what a HORRIBLE voice she has!

Overall... a losing ticket nationally. So why should it be a surprise that the nets are rooting for Obama/Biden? After all... isn't America the sort of country that LIKES winners and roots for them?

Something to think about, ladies and gents...

Posted by Lorelei in reply to RABBITLUVR

apparently I forgot to add my sarcasm icon....

I'm with ya on the same page.

Posted by RoberttheP in reply to tommy

Amazing Tommy, the anchor on MSNBC openly mocks and spews hate toward Republicans , doesnt even appear in St Paul this week , yet MMFA has a problem because of a question on a text poll.

Posted by tommy in reply to RoberttheP

MSNBC has been pumping Obama the way Fox has to McCain, as a result, for me, they cancel each other out and I tune in elsewhere.

Posted by RoberttheP in reply to tommy

And that leaves us with CNN.

Posted by RABBITLUVR in reply to RoberttheP

How about PBS? Oh wait, they don't count either because they really aren't 'independent', right?

Posted by RoberttheP in reply to RABBITLUVR

I am talking about cable Rabbit.

Posted by mary59 in reply to RoberttheP

The Cable Rabbit channel had some great coverage of the national carrot crop as well as cabbages both green and red.  On the McGregor factor, a controversy erupted about attacks on Peter Rabbit being a radical terrorist intent on destroying America.

the text results were interesting.  80% thought his activities were a result of genetics, 10% from his upbringing, and 10% thought he would not be raptured in Alaska but could be in Idaho.

Posted by RoberttheP in reply to mary59

Wow you are just as much of an idiot as Governor.

Posted by Governor in reply to RoberttheP

Hey, I'm not God!

Posted by neon desert in reply to RoberttheP

Don't listen to him Mary.  I thought it was great.

Sometimes, it's hard for good humor to penetrate the spinning gears and whirling machinery of a BobTheP brain.

Posted by JLyons in reply to RoberttheP

Bob, Mary and Governor are not idiots, but I think they are trying to be funny and the joke lasted 1 minute if that.

Posted by Governor in reply to JLyons

Mary's post was comedic brilliance – before and after 1 minute.

Posted by JLyons in reply to RABBITLUVR

CSPAN Also?

Posted by RoberttheP in reply to JLyons

CSPAN does provide a great service, it offers unbiased coverage of political events.

Posted by Governor in reply to tommy

So then, there's nothing to see here.  Thanks for stopping by.

Posted by RoberttheP in reply to Governor

God you are an idiot.

Posted by tommy in reply to RoberttheP

I text "A" for that truth.

Posted by Governor in reply to tommy

Tommy, I know that bottle of ‘Instant Incoherency’ medication on your desk states that it’s non-habit forming, but that does not mean it's safe for you to pop the pills like you do when you’re doubling down on 20-piece Chicken McNuggets.

Posted by Governor in reply to RoberttheP

I'm not the fool talking about cable rabbits.

Posted by RoberttheP in reply to Governor

Obviously I was talking to Rabbitluv but you want to defocus , play games. So be it, usually that means you have no substance.

Posted by neon desert in reply to RoberttheP

I've noticed that rabbit substance looks like cocoa puffs.  But doesn't taste as good.

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to RoberttheP

Did Tommy change his name to Amzing Tommy? And who's cable rabbit?

Posted by Governor in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

Amazing Tommy and Cable Rabbit are the dynamic duo from that far-from- pious Fox sitcom 'God You Are An Idiot'.

Posted by neon desert in reply to Governor

I can't believe they got Fred Thompson to play Cable Rabbit.  Not at all what I pictured from reading the book.

Posted by mary59 in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

oops missed your question when I posted about Cable Rabbit.  It's an great new concept.

Posted by Governor

Should have had one more option:

E.  WORKED THE REFS INTO PROVIDING ONLY POSITIVE POLL QUSTIONS

Posted by RoberttheP

I guess this is an attack

Finally, a word to Senator Obama and his supporters. We’ll go at it over the next two months. That’s the nature of these contests, and there are big differences between us. But you have my respect and admiration. Despite our differences, much more unites us than divides us. We are fellow Americans, an association that means more to me than any other. We’re dedicated to the proposition that all people are created equal and endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights. No country ever had a greater cause than that. And I wouldn’t be an American worthy of the name if I didn’t honor Senator Obama and his supporters for their achievement.

Posted by Semiauto in reply to RoberttheP

That is like people who preface with "I don't want to sound like a jerk... but" and "In all due respect..."

Posted by MoonbatYouBet in reply to RoberttheP

Directly from his speech here are some of the attacks on Obama that McCain made:

"Senator Obama passed another corporate welfare bill for oil companies"

"I will keep taxes low and cut them where I can. My opponent will raise them. I will open new markets to our goods and services. My opponent will close them. I will cut government spending. He will increase it. "

"My tax cuts will create jobs. His tax increases will eliminate them. My health care plan will make it easier for more Americans to find and keep good health care insurance. His plan will force small businesses to cut jobs, reduce wages, and force families into a government run health care system where a bureaucrat stands between you and your doctor. "

"My opponent promises to bring back old jobs by wishing away the global economy. "

"Senator Obama wants our schools to answer to unions and entrenched bureaucracies. "

"I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need."

Now, to be fair, Obama also made some of the same sort of attacks in his speech.  But to say that McCain didn't is completely dishonest and factually wrong.

Posted by thomp.steve9098

The only thing wrong with msnbc's alternatives is that they should have included an "E" for "all of the above."  The Maverick's speech accomplished all 4 of the criteria set forth . . .  Rather than wallow in gutter politics and incessantly attack his opponent, his speech was uplifting and even complimentary towards Obama.   Characteristic of a true conservative, his speech was "fair and balanced."

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to thomp.steve9098

I take it you mean "fair and balanced" literally, and not "Fair and Balanced", like the way Fox News uses it?

Posted by my4cents1172 in reply to thomp.steve9098

uplifting? When he asked everyone to stand up?

Posted by nerzog

E. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...... huh? What?

Posted by shaggles

Interesting.  There goes the righty belief that MSNBC is the Obama network.

Posted by Max Dharma in reply to shaggles

No, not really. I just think this it was a poorly crafted poll.

If the poll was designed for comparative purposes (which one would assume to be the case) then the poll should have been constructed from the intersection of the two conventions; that is, the set of communicative elements that is contained in both the RNC and DNC.

A good example of a questing that intersects both conventions would be: “Did the speech inspire confidence in X’s ability to lead?”

The poll as constructed by MSNBC has little if any value. I would love to have seen a correctly constructed poll.

Posted by neon desert in reply to Max Dharma

"No, not really. I just think this it was a poorly crafted poll."

A poorly crafted poll from an allegedly pro-Obama network neglects to include ANY options for negative reactions to his opponent's speech.

Drat!  You foiled our insidious plot to do away with McCain by fatal levels of optimism.  We would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids.  Which, by the way, wouldn't even be here if not for the failure of our insidious plot to force abortions by inducing stress caused miscarriages.

Posted by shaggles

Actually I was just looking at that graphic again.  Although the Obama grapich shows option C: Attacked John McCain below that it says only Text A or B to 622639.  Weird.  Did they just want to sneak in a message or what?

Posted by Lorelei

Now THAT's a good catch, shag.

and a funny one.

Be on the look-out for more and more right-wing shills and operatives posting at MM.

Posted by Lorelei in reply to donaldmaddog5642

Come on Don, you have to admit, that was a good catch, lol.

And if you read any of my post you will know that I am no right winger.

Posted by eweston8542983

Don't think he was directing teh post at you Lorelei.

We do have some new names popping up with a trollish miasma about them. There'll be an increase in the troll population of the MMfa comments section. Sounds like a good bet to me.

Posted by Lorelei in reply to eweston8542983

Thanks.

I know there will be an increase always is when they feel they are being "attacked".

Posted by oscar the grouch

Wow, is the graphic at the beginning (Morning Joe) really correct? Looks like the texter was only allowed 2 choices ( A or B ), both positive.

isn't it odd that certain posters just seem to go together, like milk and cookies?

Posted by neon desert in reply to mefirst

Like Mac & Cheesecake?

Posted by mefirst in reply to neon desert

i was just thinking of the posters who always seem to appear and disappear at the same time.
