Luntz's focus groups were told that Palin "stopp[ed] a bridge to nowhere," but apparently not that she previously supported it

Summary: On The O'Reilly Factor, pollster Frank Luntz stated of his discussions of Gov. Sarah Palin "with groups of independents here in Minneapolis": "[A]s the discussion goes on, they start to turn negative until they hear about her stopping a bridge to nowhere." However, Palin reportedly supported the proposal to build a bridge between Ketchikan, Alaska, and Gravina Island and suggested that Alaska's congressional delegation should continue to try to procure funding for the project. Luntz gave no indication that his focus group participants were told about Palin's prior support for the bridge.

So he influenced the focus group to think a certain way? Isn't that a violation?

He does it all the time. In '04, he had a group on MSNBC, and deliberately ignored those who he knew were Kerry supporters-- wouldn't let them talk at all. One woman was totally livid--her body language was incredible. I'd never seen anything so blatant.

Luntz gives the Republitards whatever poll results they need. He's really good at it.

she "stopped" it like anything that gets stopped when you want it but don't want to pay for it.

The Bridge to Nowhere was cancelled a year before she took office.

Donno, but Rachial Maddow has one. Contrarywise she is intelligent thoughtful, and recently hired by MSNBC for a 9PM spot.

Go figure. Hope she lasts in all good ways.

Luntz is a desperate liar. Because he knows.

He did an AARP survey on Saturday (on CSPAN) and the reaction to Palin was totally negative, despite his fluffing. When, at the end, he wierdly held up a picture of McCain (only) and asked for a vote, Obama won two-to-one.

So by now, he's deliberately trying to craft a pro-repub response. What a hack.

Luntz is only showing, once again, how Republicans win elections; misinform the voters.

A classic moment from Samantha Bee and The Daily Show:

BEE: I'm going to read you some words. Help me warm these up a bit.

LUNTZ: O.K.

BEE: Drilling for oil.

LUNTZ: I would say: "Responsible Exploration for Energy."

BEE: Logging.

LUNTZ: I would say: "Healthy Forests."

BEE: Manipulation.

LUNTZ: Explanation and education.

BEE: Orwellian.

LUNTZ: ...

Lest we forget—there are several voting blocks one must now curry favor with if making a serious run for political office. We have the under 30s, the rural vote, the ‘values’ voters, voters who believe that only a military man is fit for public office, the women’s vote etc. That is why our political season now seems more like an extended marketing campaign complete with focus groups and micro-targeting all driven by sophisticated data mining techniques. Depressingly all of these marketing gurus act as if people are unable to think for themselves. To them we are nothing more than targets for their cynical techniques of manipulation of individual and group consciousness. But there is one voting block that anyone running for public office ignores at their peril. This is the one group whose members do not think for themselves. I call it the moron vote. You ignore the moron vote at your peril. They sit glued to their radio every afternoon listening to the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, or Savage and they absorb every word. Just for example--how else can we explain that a survey conducted only two months ago 12% of those surveyed believe Obama is a Muslim? Between unresolved irregularities in the conduct of our elections and the failure to cultivate the moron vote the Democrats could lose this election—no matter what the current polls say.

I think the GOP has a lock on the MORON vote.

According to a report on NPR this morning, Whatshername initially supported the project. She later cancelled the Bridge itself, but Alaska kept the Federal money. The road leading up to the bridge is still under construction.

They also played a clip of HER praising Alaska's Congressional delegation for the "largess" they had won for the state.

Reformer? Pfffffft!

But don't forget she's against earmarks... for others!

Here's a story about "The Bridge" that was reported long before Whatshername was being considered as VP.

One little thing from the story you won't hear in her speeches: "The decision to kill the bridge project is not going over well in Ketchikan, nor is the governor's decision to spend the bridge money elsewhere."

You mean she didn't send the money back to the U.S. taxpayers? DOH!

Of course not, that money rightfully belongs to the Alaskan people.  After all, the American people earned it, and the new American motto is 'Alaska First'.
