Ignoring McCain attacks on same day, CNN's Harris called McCain's congratulatory ad "a nice touch"
Summary: Referring to a McCain campaign ad in which Sen. John McCain congratulates Sen. Barack Obama on receiving the Democratic presidential nomination, CNN's Tony Harris said, "I thought it was a nice touch to see the John McCain ad congratulating Barack Obama. I guess some would quibble with it, but I won't be one of those." Harris did not note that, notwithstanding the ad's suggestion that McCain was taking the day off from attacking Obama, the McCain campaign did attack Obama the same day that the congratulatory ad came out.

I wouldn't put much past Republican stragegists, and I think the ad was smarmy, but I believe that noting the King anniversary was sincere.
I sure hope so anyway.

I thought it was a preemptive whining ad.
McCain knew that Obama was going to attack him. He puts this ad so he and his campaign can later whine 'see we were being good to him while he had nothing but negative attacks'.

I think that McCain thought it was a 'get out of jail free' card.
Give your best wishes to Obama on Thursday night - get some good press for yourself for doing so, instead of just keeping your mouth shut - and then tromp all over the 'morning-after' commentary by throwing out all kinds of false leads about the VP pick.
He acted like he was being generous to Obama. It was an entirely self-serving comment, done to make himself look good! It was done to allow him to smother the press coverage of Obama's outstanding speech without getting beat up over it because he'd been so generous the night before!

Mmfa is whining again about something that isn't true. Another false claim by mmfa. McCain did not have any attack ads after O'bama was officially nominated on Thursday. They bring evidence of an ad that was run at 4pm ET. O'bama had not accepted the nomination, yet. McCain DID stop the attacks ads after he was nominated and he congratulated him. Mmfa claims, by inference, that McCain wouldn't attack O'bama at all on Thursday which is obviously false and more misinformation by an organization whose trademark is promoting misinformation.
mmfa: " the McCain campaign did attack Obama the same day that the congratulatory ad came out."
McCain: "Too often the achievements of our opponents go unnoticed. So I wanted to stop and say, 'Congratulations.' How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow we'll be back at it, but tonight, Senator, job well done."

.
Was the ad produced by Focus on the Family's "digital media director," Stuart Shepard? Oh, that's right, he's the one who made the video asking people to pray for torrential rain in Denver last Thursday night. How'd that work? As least weather won't interrupt the GOP convention! Ha!
