Print media reported McCain ad congratulating Obama, ignored McCain attacks on the same day

Summary: Articles in several print media outlets reported on an ad by Sen. John McCain congratulating Sen. Barack Obama on accepting the Democratic presidential nomination. But none of these articles pointed out that, notwithstanding the ad's suggestion that McCain was taking the day off from attacking Obama, the McCain campaign ran attack ads the night of Obama's speech and issued a web video and accompanying press release criticizing Obama earlier in the day.

Also, no one mentioned that this 'nice guy' ad had McCain actually referencing Obama's race.

Real nice.

Where did McCain do that?

By making a point -- a condescending point, too-- about MLK and the anniversary. It was snarky and unnecessary. A clear aside about Obama's  heritage.

He just had to do it, didn't he?

Nice editing by MMFA :)

Redskins are probably going 9-7 at best

As I said on another thread, John McCain didn't have an ad that was complimentary of Obama as a swell thing to do for Obama. It was 100% self-serving, to make him (McCain) look good. It had a side benefit of giving him a little credit when he stomped all over the 'morning after' coverage of Obama's speech.

Any praise for McCain and this ad ignores the other behavior surrounding it, including misleading comments by his campaign and other ads that attacked Obama.

At the risk of being too cynical, I have to agree, BB. This ad was the equivalent of the posters here who throw in the occasional "that's a good point" or admit to some glaringly obvious GOP wrongdoing as an attemt to portray them selves as "fair", then whine when their other ridiculous comments aren't treated as sensible.

That's a good point.
