With Obama's VP selection, Kristol now concerned with Democratic Party's "gender equity"

Summary: Bill Kristol characterized Sen. Barack Obama's selection of Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate as "Obama's imposition of a glass ceiling." But Kristol showed little concern for "gender equity" in the Democratic Party when he said during the primary that "[w]hite women are a problem" and attributed Sen. Hillary Clinton's New Hampshire primary victory to her "pretend[ing] to cry."

From this point forward, Democrats should just tell people like Kristol that he is right and then say next. He continues to speak to the choir and they will never change theirs minds.

So,Mr. Kristol, okay, you are right, next.

How big is that choir?

POW.. good job, you sucked him in !

The real story is that Barack Obama didn't select Hillary because her husband is a potential loose cannon. This has nothing to do with "glass ceilings" or "gender equity". But it is heart warming to hear Bill Kristol's deep concerns for equality for women...an issue on which he has always been in the forefront. <sarcasm>

Posted by SFnomad in reply to IRONY 101

President Clinton is a loose cannon and Senator Biden isn't?  Biden has a habit of opening his mouth before engaging his articulate, bright and clean brain.

William "The Bloody" is just a concern troll.

I can think of no better Vice-Presidential candidate to unleash on the fraudulent, ever-changing, John McCain. (He's 72 years old and still doesn't know what he's for or against.) I think McCain is going to be sorry he ever decided to conduct a negative campaign against Barack Obama...and I think Joe Biden is the perfect guy with a combination of intelligence and wit. And before you remind me that Joe Biden once praised John McCain wait until Biden says, as others have as well, how John McCain has changed his stripes to get elected. McCain is a fraud. Biden is genuine.

Posted by fawltylogic in reply to IRONY 101

You sum up exactly how I feel.

Joe Biden is a terrific pick for VP, I was hoping it would be him but never imagined it would be.

Posted by Pyrrhonist in reply to SFnomad

Biden is a loose cannon, but he's our loose cannon.  Bill Clinton is no loose cannon - he always knows exactly what he is saying, it's just that he sometimes says things that most believe aren't so good for the party as a whole. Biden is the proper choice. He will say the things that Obama will not say and he won't hold back from challenging a person he has served with for decades. There will be gaffes, but he will come back from them.  He's a good pick.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Pyrrhonist

To be clear, I think Bill Clinton knows exqactly what he's saying. However, why would Obama want an ex-President looking over his shoulder with the potential of saying something not in Obama's interest...and whose wife happens to be the Vice-President? That is what I meant when I referred to Bill Clinton as a loose cannon and that is why I think he burned any chance Hillary had for the VP slot. If Biden is a loose cannon (which I do not think) then he's the kind of loose cannon I'd want. He's well-equipped to go after McCain...and I reiterate that I think McCain will regret having started a negative campaign.

One of the most charming things about Joe Biden is his frankness and his off-the-cuff style. I must admit I do hold my breath when he is speaking sometimes.  The other day in Springfield he put his foot wrong, in his mouth in my opinion, by making that joke about his wife's PhD being a bad thing. In the current political climate, that being the 21st century, smart woman jokes just fall flat unless you are at a gathering of knuckle-draggers or out drinking with Tucker Carlson. Of course no one who knows anything about him thinks Joe Biden is a sexist.  He has a great record on gender equality issues, and he just exudes good guy vibes, but the PUMA sites and Huffington Post., among others, picked up on that one little thing.  It will be an interesting campaign, anyway.

Posted by Pyrrhonist in reply to IRONY 101

Obama could not have picked Hillary unless he already had a plan to keep Bill occupied, and I don't know what type of position you would give to a former Leader of the Free World to keep him out of your business.  It's a shame, really, because both Clintons are brilliant, but it would have been chaos. Anyway, Biden's counterpunch is better than Hillary's.

Examples from this evil one?

Posted by Pyrrhonist in reply to carlileb5935

I don't think he's evil.  I think he was a great president and he's great post-president now. Clinton is one of the best politicians in this country's history.

William "The Bloody" is just a concern troll.

Just like every talking head at Fox and on am radio. I've been listening in a lot lately, and there's hardly a mention of Grampy McCain. Only a big pile of right wing nuts who can't think their way out of a wet roll of toilet paper offering all kinds of helpful advice to the Dems. And acting very concerned.

They're like your big fat neighbor who coaches professional sports from his couch.

Posted by neon desert in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

Col., don't forget about the credo of your couch coach, the Sofa Kings' Certitude of Brilliance.

A Sofa King must disagree with a third party's decision for which there are two possible outcomes:

  1. the decision fails
  2. the decision succeeds

If (1), then the Sofa King is smart, because he knew all along that it was a bad decision.  If (2), then the Sofa King is smart because despite the success, the Sofa King was merely proposing another viable alternative.  And besides, it's plain to see that it was just dumb luck anyway.

Kristol is not just smart, he's Sofa King smart.

Don't despair sfnomad, I would bet good money that Obama has plans to include Hillary in his administration.

I mean she's brilliant and can perform any duty asked of her. I like Thom Hartmann's suggestion for her to replace Harry Reid as majority leader. I've heard her name as a possible Supreme Court nominee (wouldn't that be awesome?) Think super majority.

Posted by princeofwheels in reply to roundhouse

OHouse, Your comment to sfnomad was equal to cruel and unusual punishment. I've read many terrible insults, suggestions from the right and the left but the above is the worst and most insensitive EVER. How can you do such a thing? sfnomad is going to have sleepless nights because of you. The sfnomad will now be wandering through the massive websites of the righties to find out why you have done this. sfnomad will be calling all of the ConTalkers to find out if this is a possibility. Round, you are a monster. ;>)

sfnomad, don't forget, they may also have promised Pres. Clinton a seat on the Supreme Court also.

Great comment above also....Biden is our loose cannon...YIPPEE

Picking Joe Biden, a man who got ZERO traction twice as a presidential candidate, over Hillary Clinton, who came very close to winning the nomination, demonstrates that Obama didn't pick Hillary Clinton because his own ego is so enormous that he's determined to prove that he can run and win with no help from anyone who might be considered an equal.

That said, I'm still voting for Obama.  The country simply cannot take a four year extension of the worst presidency in modern times, and perhaps the worst presidency in the history of the United States.

Finally, what do we care about what Bill Kristol thinks?  Guys like him are wrong about EVERYTHING.  It's amazing that they are still looked to for opinion and commentary because they're never right.  Hell, they're often wrong internally -- their own ideas, concerns and stated points of view aren't consistent from one month to the next, one day to the next, one hour to the next, or one show to the next.  In fact, Kristol, Hannity, O'Reilly and other Republican concern trolls often mimic McCain in that they're inconsistent from one phrase to another within the same sentence.

Obama had no obligation to do anything for Hillary. Perhaps you are certain Hillary would have picked Barack had she managed to actually win? If not, just chill the hell out.

Truth is the Clinton campaign freakin' blew it. It was their nomination to lose and they did. They underestimated Barack in Iowa and Hillary couldn't make critical strategic decisions when it counted. Just go read the campaign memos.

Besides. You have no idea what plans Hillary and Barrack agreed to should he win the election.

But I commend you for doing like I would do and support the nominee.

Obama is saving Bill Clinton for the Supreme Court.

Posted by leftinmississippi in reply to gg

Either Clinton on the Supreme Court would be good. Scalia would have a stroke. And then Thomas would have a stroke because he does everything Scalia does. I like Bill for Secretary of State or UN Ambassador.

Shouldn't kristol be more concerned about gender equality observing  Mrs l Bush has done nothing worth noting ? Other than getting too chummy with that French scoundrel ?

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to wolf kotenberg

Also, I guess when the republicans ignore women it's not a glass ceiling issue.

Posted by neon desert in reply to carlileb5935

Republicans can't understand the Democrats concern about glass ceilings.  In fact, they let more light into the kitchen to make mopping easier.  What's the problem?

Posted by snoopy in reply to wolf kotenberg

Speaking of gender equality this year republicans ran - 8 white adultering males.

Four years ago they ran - one white adultering male.

Eight years ago they ran - a couple of white adultering males.

Sixteen years ago they ran - several white adultering males.

Twenty years ago? A white adultering male.

Twenty four and tweny eight years ago? A white adultering male who once played a white adultering male in the movies.

That's twenty eight years of gender equality there...

Oh please.  The wingnuts were drooling at the prospect of Hillary as the vp candidate.  They could have thrown out double the amounts of lies and slander and crap that they call campaign material and they already have conditioned a fair amount of the American public to believe the absolute worst about any Clinton.  There would have been nothing but pushback against the amplified noise machine and no need to worry about McCain having to actually discuss issues or policies and accidentally reveal that he has nothing new.

This whole meme of theirs about Hillary and her supporters being abandoned and offended is nothing more than an attempt to salvage what they have left of that plan while they figure out where to get another pile of dung to hurl into the fan.

Posted by wolf kotenberg in reply to MoonbatYouBet

I suspect not only McCain has nothing new, he probably couldn't remember any of it anyways.

Oh my god l actually wasted all my laughing quota for the day at Hannity. Could this guy be a bigger lying scumbag?

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to ukobserver

I love his sudden concern about Hillary and Bill Clinton, and their feelings.

These people are really atrocious.

Posted by zamfir273114

Doesn't Bill Kristol have dual citizenship with the U.S. and Israel? Not that there is anything wrong with that, I was just wondering if he is 100% loyal to America. As for gender equity, is McCain going to choose a woman? It bet he doesn't!

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to zamfir273114

I thought it was Douglas Feith who had dual citizenship with Israel. I could be wrong...

Maybe so. Nobody like to talk about it so we will probably never know. Anyway, I think Kristol is a liar and one of the #1 talking heads for the neo-conservative movement that has screwed this country up so I could care less about anything he thinks.

I was told that Rush L. was elated to have Biden as the VP choice. He seems to think it is to his advantage.

I do give Rush credit with his predictions. He makes about 10 per show, 5 times a week for approx. 46 weeks a year. Please hold, got to get my abacus out for this...that is 2300 a year and I'll be damned if he doesn't get 2 or 3 right every year. And he boats about them.

Rush, your side has already used all their ammo concerning Biden and it has only been three days. I would love to see him debate Mr. 9/11 or the father of 'My too Busy to volunteer Five Sons'.   NEXT

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to princeofwheels

(The One True) POW, Rush's shtick is to pretend that everything that happens is just what he wanted, and to convince his stoopid sheep that he's actually causing most things in the universe to happen. It's a creepy cult.

The whole Operation Chaos thing was, as I heard it originally, to get Hillary elected. Once Rush realized he'd failed at that, he switched to a plan of prolonging the primaries and "bloodying up" Obama politically. (A righty theme of changing objectives and justifications without their followers catching on?)

The latest hilarious change of position is that the Dems blew it by not nominating HRC as VP, which would have been a slam dunk. Even though they were trying to get her nominated as a sure loser as Pres.

I know, it's hard to follow for sane people, but it's fun to listen to.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

I remember a couple of weeks before the 2006 elections hearing Limbaugh predict that not only would the Republicans not lose any seats in the House and Senate but that they would GAIN seats. What a genius...  ;>)

Posted by Pyrrhonist in reply to IRONY 101

I remember when Rove insisted that he had THE MATH last time.  It always amazes me that the rightwing talkers don't even bother to use facts and twist them anymore. They seem to see no need for even an occasional vector into reality.

Posted by nerzog in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

I forced myself to listen to PigBoy last Friday, and he was whooping up the "Hillary got dissed" theme. Any true Hillary supporter that falls for that transparent crap probably needs to go ahead and change parties anyway.

Rush was also bloviating that Nancy Pelosi would force Obama to pick Chet Edwards, and he rode that horse for about an hour.

PigBoy never fails to amuse.

Posted by donaldmaddog5642

The perfect VP pick for John McCain would be Dan Quayle. He has a way with wurds, he is jung, he lives in Arizonae, and he has experience at the jobbe.

Posted by Blueneck in reply to donaldmaddog5642

Yes--James Danforth Dan Quayle a real bodenständiger Mann. Signatory of The Project for the New American Century. Uniquely qualified: owns a home at the Yellowstone Club (lots start at 2 mil.) and at least one more in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Maybe a few more too--after all who can remember how many houses they own? This alone makes him a great match for McPappy. And let us not forget that he is a trustee emeritus of the Hudson Institute. Perfect. A true environmentalist. This would spell real trouble for the Democrats--you know "T-R-U-B=U-L". Sorry kid but trubul has two L's.

Posted by tbone in reply to donaldmaddog5642

I like it.  It brings youth to the ticket.  VP twenty years ago and he's still a decade younger than Grandpa McAngry Pants.

Posted by NiceguyEddie

Flip-flops and hypocrasy.  Yep... he's a McMain through and through.  (And back in 2000, he was probably against him before he was for him.)

Posted by pete592

Why is it that right-wing professional liars like Kristol find it necessary to devote so much time and energy to defining the left-wing instead of defining their own side?

Posted by Lorelei in reply to pete592

cuz he did define his side..

"White women are a problem, that's, you know -- we all live with that."

Posted by albertsenj in reply to pete592

Because it is easier to see the mote in your neighbor's eye than the beam in your's?

Posted by Timmee in reply to pete592

Exactly....their drive isn't to make you vote for McCain because anyone with half a brain knows what this will bring us. So the goal is to make people NOT vote for Obama.

And no, they don't even need a nugget of truth to jump off of into an insane rant.

wow, women really can't win, can they?  since, well...since forever, women have been delegated to this role of "the woman behind the man".  and when a female does work her way up to a powerful position, she gets rejected for the man she's married to?  hmmm...something really bothers me about this.  they may share a last name, but my god, give this woman some credit for actually being her own person.
