CNN's King, Blitzer selectively cited poll showing less support for Obama among Clinton backers

Summary: On Late Edition, Wolf Blitzer and John King both cited an August 15-18 Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll in which 52 percent of Sen. Hillary Clinton's supporters said they will support Sen. Barack Obama, but neither noted that an August 19-22 Washington Post/ABC News poll found that 70 percent of Clinton supporters "back Obama," according to the Post.

Yeah yeah, and earlier this week McCain had a lead within the margin of error and it was proof he's on top. Now today they just reported the latest poll showing that Obama re-took that lead and they report the same spread is within the margin of error. What else is new?

Posted by Leftwingcenter in reply to snoopy

Nuttin' a-tall, Snoop.  They're just following the usual Obama Reporting Rules; never put him in a good light.  If the numbers favor McCain, trumpet them as loudly as possible.  If the numbers favor Obama, find a way to undercut or discredit them.  If Obama was leading by thirty points, the conservative (i. e., entire) media would question why his lead wasn't larger and how McCain can exploit his obvious weakness in only leading by thirty...

What else is new?

Well...we've just learned that John McCain is a former POW. The reason this was not previously disclosed is because John McCain doesn't like to talk about it.  ;>)

Posted by Leftwingcenter in reply to IRONY 101

Now, be fair!  John McCain only talks about being a Former POW whenever he opens his mouth...

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Leftwingcenter

Apparently he opened his mouth again yesterday...

NOUN VERB POW

Posted by snoopy in reply to heru

Did you know that every McCain ad ends with the words "I'm John McCain, a former POW, and I approve of this message"?

Posted by heru in reply to snoopy

No I didn't, I have POW fatigue ;)

Posted by snoopy in reply to heru

Well then, let's change the subject to take note of this right wing racist who openly admits he's gonna make fake passes to the DNC convention so he can infiltrate it and create a disturbance! Maybe it's someone we know who posts here? =0

I think there are some Clinton supporters who genuinely believe she still has a shot of winning the nomination.  Once reality sets in, they'll flock to Obama.

Posted by Science101 in reply to loonz

They had a few on them on MSNBC right after the Biden selection.  I can't believe they'd be seriously thinking that she has a chance.  But then again, Hillary thought the same exact thing when she loaned her campaign all that money....now she wants donations to pay it back.  It's like buying a car you had no business buying, then asking the bank if they'd consider just paying it off for you.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Science101

But I'll bet Hillary can remember what kind of car she bought...as opposed to the former POW, John McCain, who not only can't remember how many houses he owns, he can't even remember what kind of car he has.

Are ad hominem attacks the only thing you can come up with?

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Science101

Nah, I've got tons of material...I'm just waiting for a worthy opponent.

Why are you attacking Irony's character instead of responding to his argument?

These polls are of limited use right now. I know quite a few Hillary supporters who, just out of loyalty, refuse to voice support for Obama until after the convention.  But they will support him fully once he is nominated. One is a superdelegate. The party will come together.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Pyrrhonist

The polls are crazy...the USAToday/Gallup poll out today showed that 23% of those polled didn't even know who Joe Biden is. Amazing...

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to IRONY 101

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-08-23-biden-poll_N.htm

23% never heard of Joe Biden...

Posted by Pyrrhonist in reply to IRONY 101

I saw that. Maybe the campaign was smart to announce the running mate immediately before the start of the convention so the party can introduce Biden to the sheeple before the fascist radio hit squad starts hating on him full time.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Pyrrhonist

Sean Hannity used to call him "my friend" <gag>...but after Biden became the front runner for VP all Hannity did was trash him for his "arrogance".

Posted by Science101 in reply to IRONY 101

Hannity did was trash him for his "arrogance".

His "i have a higher IQ" statment justifies it though.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Science101

Did you see Geraldine Ferraro on with Hannity recently when Hannity was trashing Biden for his arrogance...for thinking he's the smartest guy in the room. Ferraro replied with something like, "If Joe Biden was here, Sean, he WOULD be the smartest guy in the room."

When he was a POW, John McCain often passed the time thinking about how when he got out he wanted a simple woman who would stay home and do the cooking and cleaning...

Yep, he wondered if they belonged to a union or whether he could just find an illegal alien and pay her cash under the table...

Posted by Leftwingcenter in reply to IRONY 101

When he was a POW, John McCain often passed the time thinking about how when he got out he wanted a simple woman who would stay home and do the cooking and cleaning...

And have $100M and seven homes for him to live in while attacking his political opponent as elitist...

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Leftwingcenter

And have $100M and seven homes for him to live in...

The former POW firmly believes in the power of prayer... and the Lord sent Cindy and all of her bounty to him.  ;>)

Posted by Leftwingcenter in reply to IRONY 101

And God told him He wanted him to be President...oops, that was Shrub.  My bad.  Everyone knows he's not at all like Bush!  His favorite Supreme Court Justinces may be Shrub's picks, and he may be bouncing on one foot waiting to put Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld in his Cabinet, but he not at all like Bush.  You hear me?...

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to

Don't watch much Hannity because I can't stand his weasel partner.

If Alan Colmes is a "weasel" do you think it was just by accident that FOX hired a "weasel" to be Hannity's liberal foil? Hannity's show is about as contrived as John McCain interjecting references to himself as a former POW into everything... If John McCain really didn't like to talk about it, he wouldn't...

Posted by Leftwingcenter in reply to IRONY 101

Irony, if Seannie was alone in the room with field mouse, the field mouse would be th esmartest man in the room...

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Leftwingcenter

Yea...and we all know how insufferably arrogant field mice are.  ;>)

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to Science101

Hannity told somebody he had a higher IQ? Was he talking to a slug?
Couldn't be. If Hannity was in a room alone with a slug, the slug would have the highest IQ in the room.

Posted by RABBITLUVR in reply to Science101

Oh, I get it. Being intelligent and educated is somehow being 'arrogant'. No wonder your side is so dumb... you diss education unless it comes from jackasses like Limbaugh. You would rather just choose to be stupid and uninformed. Brilliant.

Posted by donaldmaddog5642

Koookie Roberts said that the media loves this story and the Republicans love this story. Exactly! The media and the Republicans are working together to damage Sen. Obama's campaign. That much is obvious. If Obama made the huge number of stupid and inaccurate remarks as McCain he would have been toast months ago. Did Rugrat Murdoch purchase CNN while my back was turned? The individuals sitting around the studios at CNN seem to think this election is for their AMUSEMENT, to be chuckled over with rib-elbowing, wink-winking and saying the most outrageous off-the-cuff stuff without any regard for the weight of their words on the innocent public. Disgusting.

Posted by MoonbatYouBet

I've been told that there are pundits and Republican operatives recommending Hillary as the ultimate best possible choice of all VP candidates but for some reason whenever I hear them speak all it sounds like is "Please don't throw me in the briar patch."

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to MoonbatYouBet

Moon, that was Chris Wallace's(I think it was him, I get the TV wingnuts all mixed up) concern trolling point today, that the only real "game changer" would have been HRC. He then said that some would have loved her, some would have hated her.Meaning it could have been a complete wash, and he had no idea what he was talking about.

The other lame attack by the righties (at this point anyway) is that Biden doesn't mesh with the "change" theme of Obama's campaign. They've been hammering the "inexperience" angle so hard for the past few months, that now their "helpful advice" seems to be that Obama should have chosen somebody less experienced than Biden. So they could continue with the bullshlt they'd become comfortable with.heh heh.

That's why I like watching Fox and the rest of the screwed up media. They're so flipping lazy when things don't fall into the cute little fantasies they've manufactured, it makes them nuts (more than usual).

Why would a Hillary supporter vote for McCain? The only two reasons I can think of are (1) Small minded peevishness and (2) Racism.

All of the issues Hillary supporters claim to care about will go to hell if McCain wins. There is no logical reason for them to jump ship and vote for Grampy.... it would be a classic case of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If McCain wins due to childish Hillary defectors, the Democratic party will be FUBAR.

Posted by RABBITLUVR in reply to nerzog

You must remember that the average voter - even a Dem one - is fundamentally stupid. 30% of Hillary supporters are willing to pull the R lever. And McCain putting out new ads touting this 'PUMA' thingy will have an effect.

People are so damned STUPID. ANYONE who is willing to cross over and vote for McCain DESERVES to get screwed big time. And that is what will happen.

Imbeciles...

Posted by nerzog in reply to RABBITLUVR

I tend to agree with you on the intelligence of the average voter. Unfortunately, when they get what they deserve, they drag the rest of us down with them. I think we've all suffered greatly over the last 7 years due to the general stupidity of the American electorate.

I was amazed at the poll that said 23% had never even heard of Joe Biden, despite the fact that he was a candidate for President just a few months ago. No doubt, these are the same people who can't name either of their U.S. Senators, can't find Iraq on a map, and believe that our system of government is based on the Bible.

Why would a Hillary supporter vote for McCain?

Some Hillary supporters are conservaive Democrats or moderate Republicans who are more hawkish on perceived national security issues.  Some are still supporting the maverick who no longer exists in reality.  The reasons for their wavering are varied, but it's too simplistic to label them childish. The party has to work to win them back, but it can be done.  I think it's significant that Lilly Ledbetter is one of the speakers on opening night.  Her case and the proposed legislation that followed highlight one of the real differences between the candidates - one issue that should matter to the Hillary supporters.  It just needs to be emphasized, and I think it will be tonight.

Posted by nerzog in reply to leftinmississippi

Well, I hope you're right. I fail to see how Hillary would be so superior to Obama on national security. Their main difference was her vote to go into Iraq. I don't think anybody can make a convincing case that invading Iraq was not a monumental foreign policy blunder... whether the surge worked or not. For some reason, our "Free Press" has decided to give the Bush administration a pass on lying us into that war. Go figure.

I find it hard to believe that many "conservatives" genuinely supported Hillary, given the way she was savaged by conservatives during the 90s.

And, if anyone thinks she would have fared any better than Obama as a target of the RNC/Karl Rove Big Lie machine.... they're simply out of touch with reality.

Posted by RABBITLUVR in reply to nerzog

Listening to 'Big Eddie' right now - he just had two callers - Hillary supporters - on who said that the new Gramps PUMA ads have pissed them off to the point where they will definitely cast their votes for Obama. One of the callers stated that he is disgusted by McCain using Hillary as a tool against Obama.

Looks like this ad will backfire on Gramps...

Posted by nerzog in reply to RABBITLUVR

We can only hope so. I'd love to see the Republican Party implode to the point that they'd tar and feather Karl Rove.

The Rasmussen Gallup Contribution

Check it out, Rasmussen polls are being very deliberate with their attempt to assert John McCain is catching up and moving ahead of Barack Obama during the Democratic convention. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out the polls are leaning right — far right.

RealClearPolitics example my point; there is a deliberate attempt to make it look like the Democrats are loosing the election. This is done in two ways:

  • 1. CNN, Gallup, USAtoday and Rasmussen are working as a group. They flood the average with like numbers. This makes it easier for other conservative polling agencies to add their conservative bias polls. The end result is they can make the claim more then one poll says the same thing. If that is not enough, these pollsters release in two names — Gallup/USAToday, CNN/Gallup or CNN/Gallup.

  • 2. The two tracking polls work as a valve. As other pollsters increase Obama’s numbers, they lower his numbers as needed. My point here is no one poll should have this much influence in a average. Why is a tracking poll averaged with time release polls anyway?

It is hard to get a true unbiased account of the polling averages. I thought SurveyUSA was a good pollsters. But. when you look at how low their numbers are for Obama, you can’t trust no one. This point is shown in an Oregon poll.

What bothers me the most is none of the talking heads will say some of these polls are bias. When it comes to Gallup and Rasmussen, they seem made for CNN commentators. Behind every statement they make, there is “the lastest” Gallup poll to back it up. Sometimes I feel like I am being soften up for the big ripoff in November.
