Cavuto hosted "anti-feminist attorney" Den Hollander, who advocated "cut[ting] out the feminazi, feminist women's studies programs" at Columbia

Summary: Fox News' Neil Cavuto interviewed "anti-feminist attorney" Roy Den Hollander, who discussed his lawsuit against Columbia University for offering a women's studies program "but not a men's studies program." Den Hollander said: "[C]ut out the feminazi, feminist women's studies programs and bring back varsity sports, and you're going to do a lot better for the university." Den Hollander later said that women "are a suspect class. Every time they open their mouths, I begin to suspect something."

Faux News has officially reached the bottom of the barell.

Posted by Science101 in reply to wzwriter

because someone who is not employed by Fox News was on the air giving his own personal opinion?  Wow, what has this world come to.

Posted by leftinmississippi in reply to Science101

Because they aired such an asinine segment.  Par for the course really - just more pandering to the angry white men who are the majority of their viewers.

Posted by Science101 in reply to leftinmississippi

They also allow people such as Code Pink to give their views too.  I would consider that asinine...but their idiocy speaks for itself on air.

Posted by snoopy in reply to Science101

"cut his mike!"

All you need to know about fox and "fair and balanced".

Posted by Science101 in reply to snoopy

I wish they didn't cut the mic - especially on Jackson.

Posted by worrierking in reply to Science101

One again, you've got everything back asswards.

No one cut off Jackson's mike. If they had cut it like you wish they had, you bedwetters wouldn't have been able to hear Jackson's "nuts" comment.

Posted by Science101 in reply to worrierking

I'm referring to them not actually making public the rest of his comments.

Posted by worrierking in reply to Science101

Then your statement had nothing to do with Fox turning off his mic but with Fox holding out on you, correct?

Posted by robotchubby in reply to Science101

Funny.  I was thinking the same thing about this guy.

He is absolutely threatened by women, to the point of continuously calling them "girls," which in his mind gives him power because he's a man (supposedly).

Posted by NiceguyEddie in reply to robotchubby

Looks like they found a replacement for that neanderthal Marc Rudov!

Posted by susangee in reply to Science101

This guy is an infamous misogynist and is viewed as a real clown. He sued several bars in New York a few years ago for hosting "Ladies' Nights". He is not really an authority on anything -- just a very strange character with a personal agenda -- he hates women,

DEN HOLLANDER: 'Cause I went there. I graduated there, and so that gives me standing. But going back to what your past guest said, cut out the feminazi, feminist women's studies programs and bring back varsity sports, and you're going to do a lot better for the university.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/teams/colum/

They do have varsity sports (which refutes his point), but man are they pitiful... But FWIR, athletic success coupled with academic success can bring a lot more students to a school.

Also, isn't "feminazi" Limbaugh's term? I thought they were all very territorial of their labels here...

CAVUTO: But what is Columbia doing that ticks you off?

DEN HOLLANDER: Well, what Columbia is doing is it's presenting a women's studies program but not a men's studies program. So what the complaint charges is that women's studies is really -- which teaches feminism, they state that they're teaching feminism -- and so the teaching of feminism -- I'm arguing that feminism is a religion. Now, religion doesn't require a god.

OK, I can go for the whole "men's studies" to complement the "women's studies", but for the rest of his statement... I don't know, it reads American English but for some reason it requires translation beyond my means...

Posted by Governor in reply to DAWUSS

I think the guy slipped when he said "feminazi" on Fox News.  As you can see from his MySpace page (yes, he's a lawyer so of course that means he has a 12-year-old's weblife), he does not seem to have the guts to use Rush's cock-and-ballbag pejorative:

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to DAWUSS

Well, what Columbia is doing is it's presenting a women's studies program but not a men's studies program.

Everything else is men's studies.

Posted by tommy in reply to carlileb5935

That's quite a slap at women.  I believe they do just fine in those other courses not named after their gender.

Posted by Craig in reply to tommy

That's not what Carlile said. Of course they do well. I bet you would do well in a women's studies program, too.

Posted by annes10 in reply to Craig

Well, go for it. Except ... no stiletto heels, Tommy.

Posted by deeznuts in reply to Craig

I took a women's studies course in undergrad just to see what the fuss was about.

1. I wasn't the only guy in the class.

2. There was absolutely no man-hate that I could detect.

3. The only thing I specifically remember was reading a lot of Maya Angelou, which I frankly found a little dull after the 2nd or 3rd poem.

We also talked about Helen Thomas for an entire class period. The consensus was: "Helen Thomas rocks."

Posted by tommy

Now I am all for cutting waste on any government funded silliness, and a women's studies course may or may not fall into that category, I have no idea......but a lawsuit?  We are clogging up our courts so some loopy anti-feminist can get a booking on Fox News, or puff his chest out over this nonsense?

Ridiculous.

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to tommy

I took women's studies several times.

Posted by tommy in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

Or you've been studying women for years.

Posted by jeter2 in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

I study women, mostly at the mall...does that count?

Posted by tommy in reply to jeter2

If you're in the food court, yes, it counts.  If you're hiding under the department store lingerie counter, no, it doesn't.  :)

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to tommy

OK, then I take my post back.

Posted by tommy in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

HA!  Good one Col.  (hint; bring a feather duster and look busy next time, works........I mean, ahh, I heard it works)

Posted by snoopy in reply to tommy

Does it count if you're on the 2nd floor of the mall looking over the railing?

Posted by tommy in reply to snoopy

Only if you're not wearing lingerie.

Posted by snoopy in reply to tommy

Dang.

Oops, that darned outside voice again!

Posted by historygeek001 in reply to tommy

What if you wear lingerie under regular clothes so nobody can see?

Posted by jeter2 in reply to tommy

If you're in the food court, yes, it counts.  If you're hiding under the department store lingerie counter, no, it doesn't.  :)

Hehehe...only at Victoria Secrets ;-)

I also study them at the beach.

In fact I study them nearly everywhere...

Guess that means I've earned a Masters Degree in Feminist Women Studies :-)

Posted by DAWUSS in reply to jeter2

And those must be the women Hollander was referring to:

DEN HOLLANDER: No, the point is, if you look at equal pay per unit of time, or equal pay, or pay per unit of risk, girls are making more than guys.

*wink wink*

Posted by Science101 in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

Couldnt pass the class the first time?

Posted by Science101 in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

Couldnt pass the class the first time?

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to Science101

Oh yeah? Couldn't post right the first time?

Told you.

Posted by Science101 in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

I was repeating a post, like you repeated the class.

Posted by DAWUSS in reply to Science101

That sounded like a weak comeback/1UP...

Posted by Col. Harlan Sanders in reply to Science101

I see. completely intentional.

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to tommy

Now I am all for cutting waste on any government funded silliness, and a women's studies course may or may not fall into that category, I have no idea.

No you don't. Columbia is a private school.

Posted by tommy in reply to carlileb5935

They are not completely private. You have no idea what you're talking about.  Are you saying they receive no state funding of any kind?  Because you would be mistaken.

Posted by wzwriter in reply to tommy

True, Columbia University may be receiving some taxpayer support, Tommy.  But the level of taxpayer support for Columbia is far lower than for, say, NYU.

Posted by doggone-ga in reply to tommy

"Ridiculous."

It's just his opinion, isn't he?  He's entitled to say what he thinks, after all.  Why get all riled up about someone's opinion?  Just ignore it and he'll go away.

Posted by tommy in reply to doggone-ga

Your cute little provocations don't impress, about as much as your opinions, so you're batting 1000.

Posted by doggone-ga in reply to tommy

It's just my opinion.  Ignore it.  But I won't go away.  Why get so riled up about it?  I'm entitled to my opinion.

Posted by tommy in reply to doggone-ga

Just for the record, I normally do ignore your opinions.  I am just waiting for my bread to toast this time.  But you are entitled to them, absolutely.  Good enough?

Posted by doggone-ga in reply to tommy

why get so riled up about it?  If you're ignoring them why do you reply to them?

Posted by friedbergboy1422 in reply to tommy

Hi Tommy,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Columbia is a private school, no?  This would probably tell us that the public isn't paying for it.  As an aside, is he serious about his point about Columbia being able to ADD revenue by adding sports?   Columbia already has football and basketball, are the minor sports bigger $$ generators at Ivy League schools?

Posted by wolf kotenberg

I googled this guy and found this

http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/article4568104.ece

Roger Ailes is promoting this stuff ???

Posted by Craig in reply to wolf kotenberg

Thanks for the link, Wolf. This guy is quite a character.

And he's not too bright, suing nightclubs for having Ladies' Nights and then complaining that it's hard to get "pretty young ladies" and "girls who are in their athletic prime" to have casual sex with him.

No wonder his ex-wife chose her career (she's a stripper) over him.

Posted by snoopy

So I guess when McCain says the republicans are the party of diversity, they are referring to political white group affiliations and not sex, race or religion?

Posted by DAWUSS in reply to snoopy

How many are there?

Posted by snoopy in reply to DAWUSS

Let's see, the KKK, stormfront, white supremicists, Hagee's church, Robert's church, ...

Man, that was just off the top o me head.

Posted by Science101 in reply to snoopy

So republicans are not diverse because they aren't affiliated with feminazi's, gay pride groups, and muslims?

Posted by DAWUSS in reply to Science101

What about Republicans who choose to be gay? What about Muslims who are registered Republicans? What would you say about them?

Posted by snoopy in reply to DAWUSS

Think of it as being like the born again groups counting catholics into their yearly tally to say there are more christians than muslims before they go back to bashing them for being a different kind of christian.

Posted by Science101 in reply to DAWUSS

I'd say welcome.  But they are few and far between.

Posted by snoopy in reply to Science101

My point exactly. Republicans should just hang a "not welcome" sign at the door...

Posted by deeznuts in reply to DAWUSS

1. There is no such thing as "feminazis."

2. No one chooses to be gay.

Posted by pearlene_scott1602 in reply to DAWUSS

What about Republicans who choose to be gay? What about Muslims who are registered Republicans? What would you say about them?

Wuss, did you think no one would notice your "choose to be gay" line?

"...and bring back varsity sports, and you're going to do a lot better for the university."

Aren't varsity sports the only college programs that actually receive adequate funding?  What a moron!

Posted by mary59 in reply to robotchubby

He's missing all the sports the ladies have taken away, like underwater soccer and badmitten.

Posted by zamfir273114

This is one of those times I completely agree with the antagonist (Hollander). I can see an African-American studies, a Latino Culture studies or even a "Woman in History" course; however, just a "Feminist Studies" class seems to be a wasteful endeavor that would provoke hostility among male students.

Posted by doggone-ga in reply to zamfir273114

"just a "Feminist Studies" class seems to be a wasteful endeavor that would provoke hostility among male students."

Sound like the best reason to keep having the studies to me.

Posted by zamfir273114 in reply to doggone-ga

Why? You like provoking hostility on campus? You want race wars too?

Posted by doggone-ga in reply to zamfir273114

One thing it accomplishes is to separate those who think with their brains and those who only respond to their hormones.  You get to uess which ones would be hostile.

Posted by friedbergboy1422 in reply to zamfir273114

Zam,

I thought the course he was mad at was just the "Women's Studies" course.  I think Hollander added the "feminist" adjective to demonize the program a bit more.  I don't think there is a "Feminist Women's Studies" program.

Posted by zamfir273114 in reply to friedbergboy1422

Ok that makes sense :) I should have guessed that.

Posted by mary59

Den Hollander might be satisfied if Columbia offered this course for their Women's Studies Program (thanks Neon)

Conservatives are not in favor of academic freedom- they just want to end areas of study that undermine their fictitious portrayal of America and its history.

What the hell would a men's studies program be? The same reason why their is no White Studies class, because the dominant demographic can be studied by examining its its aspects in general overview classes.

Posted by blueblood

Anti-feminist= get women back in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant

Anti-abortion=anti-feminist

Conservatives loathe female participation in mainstream culture because it is an affront to the old days when rich white men controlled the country. Conservatism is anti-woman and anti-minority at its core.

I was in five women's studies courses in college, and in all of those classes there were at least a couple guys, if not more. None of them were ever treated badly, in fact at the end of a couple of my women's studies classes some of the guys stood up and said how surprised they were that they weren't made to feel out of place or belittled in any way. I don't understand why they were surprised at all. I once read an article by a man who identified as a feminist. He talked about how he went to a conference to hear feminist women speak, and he expected to be lauded as a hero among men for attending a feminist event. While there, he didn't receive any special attention from the women, negative or positive. He found himself disappointed in a weird way. I think this it is typical that some men, even good and generally enlightened men, don't realize that doing something as "daring" joining a women's studies course or sitting in a room full of feminists doesn't either impress or anger women, especially not to the point of stabbing a man with one's stilettos. When I was in school I couldn't have cared less if men joined my classes. I was there to learn, and if they were too, good for them.

I wonder if this guy has any daughters.   I wonder what he thinks of his mother.

I wonder what his mother thinks of him.

I wonder why Faux News continues to show contempt and hate for women.

Posted by jonesjax2374

I went to college in the 70s.  I was a literature major. In four years they taught ONE woman, Emily Dickinsen.  That's why Women's Studies evolved - I finally read the Brontes in a women's studies class.  But I suppose that' a waste of money, eh?   Whoever wrote here "the rest IS men's studies" got it right. People need to know the history of this.   Now it may be that all these studies will one day be redundant, but this guy's argument seems really dated and, frankly, kind of like a hysterical closeted man.  I think Fox is really losing it hear. Its so Jerry Springer.

Roy Den Hollander was on the opie and anthony show the other day and they tore him apart. what a phoney he is. To sum it all up, roy acts like he does because he has a hard time picking up chicks. Plus a man his age taking a hip hop class to meet "girls" is creepy.
