Ignoring key facts, MSNBC's Witt agreed with Freddoso that Obama's opponents in 1996 race were disqualified on a "technicality"

Summary: During an interview with David Freddoso, MSNBC's Alex Witt baselessly adopted a word Freddoso used to describe how Sen. Barack Obama challenged his opponents' qualifications for appearing on the ballot of the 1996 Illinois state Senate Democratic primary for the 13th district, saying that Obama's opponents were disqualified on a "technicality." In fact, one of Obama's opponents in that 1996 race reportedly admitted that he "now suspects" some of the signatures his campaign collected were forged, while another reportedly had some of her signatures disqualified because they were from voters who lived outside the 13th district -- facts Witt did not raise during the interview.

Was this the one where his opponent in the primary dropped out due to a scandal and the Republicans had literally no one to run against him in the general?

The way commenting works here is that you read the posting, then you comment.

That way you can be much better informed about what you're posting about, instead of simply looking like someone who's trying to get the first post in to perhaps derail the thread or get attention.

Hi BB!  I'm elated!  Sorry to go off topic, but I just have to tell all my poster buddies the outcome of our local primary election!

I WON !  The Democrats are taking over the reins of our Township bord this November, we out scored the Republicans by a 66 to 34 margin.  People are sick of the "Good Ol' Boys Club" running things.

We've seen it happening all over the country, and it's great to be a small part of it.  We even named our campaign Progressives for [my real name] and this generally Republican town has sent their message by voting for us.  I never dreamed it would be so much work, but soooo worth it.

Beats posting all day!

Now, seize their guns and bibles !!!!! Ha Ha ha ha !!!!

Boy - THAT would make them bitter.....  :-)

Posted by therick in reply to wzwriter

They might be bitter after we tell the local church pastor that during our administration we will no longer open with a prayer.  We thought that instead we'll set aside a moment of silence.  We have heard objections from Jewish members of our community concerning the prayer practice, and although most of us are Christians, we feel strongly that no church should run government, and no government should run religion.

Seems logical to me.

And thanks to all of you for the warm wishes!

Rick

THERICK, terrific. Remember, I contributed to your campaign and expect a nice cushy job with great pay and benefits. OOPS, sorry, you are the real THERICK, I thought I was talking to my Republican buddy Rick. He promised all of those things after he paid me to vote for him. And, I signed his petition 100 times.

Don't tell me.  I know.  The check's in the mail.

Posted by onionhead in reply to DAWUSS

Nope, that was the 2004 election for senator of Illinois.  Republicans did find someone to run against Obama: Alan Keyes (he was a lamb being led to slaughter).

Posted by see it real in reply to DAWUSS

No, that was different.

The GOP hired their anti-black Negro conservative mercenary Republican Alan "I Hate Black People More Than Whites Even Though I'm Black Myself" Keyes to come in from Maryland and run against Obama.  What an embarassment!

Keyes ranted on by telling lies about Obama and abortion and gay marriage, and Keyes also insulted and offended Chicago's black talk radio station WVON-AM 1690 http://www.wvon.com, and in 2004 WVON was on dial 1690, when Keyes repeatedly rejected invitations to appear on WVON.

Following the law to become qualified to run in an election is an integral part of our democracy. It's not a technicality, and having the reporter buy into the false meme that it is a technicality furthers the conservative agenda.

It makes Obama look bad, when what he did is what every politician should do, and what every voter should support. We make people get over hurdles in our lives every day. People who are trying out for jobs have to take tests sometimes. Politicians running for office have to submit valid petitions with sufficient valid signatures. Anyone who claims that Obama did something wrong by challenging petitions is an unpatriotic American.

Posted by anotheramerican in reply to BottleBlonde

BB,

I stated the same sentiments earlier this week, wrapping it around the phrase, "good old-fashioned politics", and was roundly criticized by many here. Glad to see you agree with me.

Posted by BottleBlonde in reply to anotheramerican

Sure ya did.

Posted by leatherhelmet in reply to BottleBlonde

Seems some would call that "disenfranchisement".

Posted by BottleBlonde in reply to leatherhelmet

Actually, no one could legitimately call that disenfranchisement.

People trying to lie could call it that I guess.

Disenfranchisement means to disallow a legitimate vote to take place. A candidate who doesn't collect the required amount of registered voter signatures in whatever district the race is being run in is not a legitimate candidate.

Maybe you should look up the word.

Posted by wzwriter in reply to leatherhelmet

Seems some would call that "disenfranchisement".

Only people who think they have the right to violate the voting laws (like Ann "The Nam" Coulter) would call that "disenfrangisement".

Like voter caging?

Speaking of questionable, anyone see this?

WASHINGTON — Alice Rocchio is an office manager at the New York headquarters of the Hess Corp., drives a 1993 Chevy Cavalier and lives in an apartment in Queens, N.Y., with her husband, Pasquale, an Amtrak foreman.

Despite what appears to be a middle-class lifestyle, the couple has written $61,600 in checks to John McCain’s presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee, most of it within days of McCain’s decision to endorse offshore oil drilling.

A former FEC official said that it’s possible that the Rocchios had the means to make those hefty contributions — their first reported donations to a federal campaign. But the official, who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, said that their donations also could trigger a complaint or otherwise catch the eyes of the agency’s enforcement staff, tasked to ensure that companies or wealthy individuals don’t illegally circumvent contribution limits by using employees or other third parties as “conduits” for cash. Read on…

TPM has been all over this story and it now appears that the Rocchios aren’t the only ones who are under the microscope for questionable donations to McCain and the RNC. And is it a coincidence that only a week after donations from a major American oil company low level employee, Flip Flop McCain changes his attitude on off-shore drilling?  On top of that, in a TPM update, the Rocchios are renters and that their donations exceed the median household income for the area they live in.

Late Update: There’s a bit of dispute over whether Flushing, Queens, should be described as “middle class” or “lower middle class.” It turns out that the median household income in the Rocchios’ zip code is $58,069. Read on…

When the Norman Hsu story broke, Hillary Clinton was pounded day after day by the media, so we should expect them to be all over this story — right?  Perhaps Keith Olbermann will run with this story and give it the national scrutiny it deserves.

Good work!  Our investigative beagle is on the job, but there doesn't seem to be any vast left wing conspiracy to publicize this underhanded contribution.  Hmm.  Liberal press taking a very long holiday?

Posted by jsc34315314

Keep up the good work, the more you attack both the Obama books the more they fly off the shelves and the truth is revealed.  Why don't you try the same thing with Nancy P's book her book is a huge disaster. Why don't you post a link to the NY Times or Amazon.com bestseller lists so your nutjob readers can see how successful you have been in promoting the two books you keep trying to knock.  The Speaker of the Flop does not even can't even sell 3,000 books, what a joke.

Posted by anotheramerican in reply to jsc34315314

JSC,

If that were the case, then wouldn't it hold true that MMFA is helping sell Corsi's book by it's criticisms?

Posted by neondesert in reply to jsc34315314

Keep up the good work, the more you attack both the Obama books the more they fly off the shelves and the truth is revealed.

Well, if Corsi and Fredosso don't mind being revealed as such, then I don't mind them making their living by being liars.

I wouldn't be real proud of them if I was their kids or parents, but if they're willing to compromise their honor to make a few bucks, I doubt they care much what their families think.

Posted by princeofwheels in reply to jsc34315314

As I said before, isn't it just priceless that the Speaker of the House, a woman, is telling the impotent Repubs what to do. Beautiful. They did it to the Dems and now the little sissies are crying. Bedwetting may be their next option for attention.

P.S. We're waiting for the books to go for 1.00 and then go to the 1/2 priced book store. I owe AA a book. P.S. Don't really care about anyone's books...Only the gavel that Pelosi uses to beat down the Ridiculous Repubs. Keep cryin'

Posted by snoopy in reply to jsc34315314

Yeah, right. That's why the right wing flying monkees are urging the mindless followers to buy the books in bulk. I give it two weeks before we see the buy one, get this wonderful sh!t-in-a-wrapper for free.

You may have two points. The noncabassa one, since McUnderinflated has gone negative, he's dropped three points.

Since we're that influencial, the only place to go is advertising. Product placement anyone?

 Product placement anyone?

Please, EW, have some principles.

Just going over the list of MMfA's unacceptable content, Col, I find the following apply:

     Inappropriate?

      Exploitative?

      Disgusting?

If you would efrain from posting such patronizing material in the future, I would appreciate it.

Wow, I don't know how that got in there Neon. I apologize, I was working on several things at once. It's pretty hot out here, makes it hard to think sometimes. I'll bet it's worse in Vegas, eh? I can't imagine the heat there, or the thirst, the type calling out for an award winning American lager.

Posted by neondesert in reply to Col. Harlan Sanders

I don't know why, but suddenly, I'm thirsty.

Think I'll trot down to my nearest convenience store in my super-comfortable Air Zoom SPARQ TR Elite training shoes.  It'll be effortless, like walking on air.  Just as long as all the chicks attracted by my Air Zooms stylish and sporty good looks don't delay me again...

I usually store them in the basement with a few teachers and an education board or two. They don't decay so quickly down there. Good as a root celler.

I LOVE HOW THE NEGATIVE ADS THAT THEY PUT OUT ON OBAMA BACKED FIRED AND NOW MCCAIN AND THE MEDIA ARE TALKING ABOUT THE REAL PROBLEMS AND NOT ATTACKING OBAMA IN A MEAN WAY LIKE THEY WERE BEFORE. BUT MARK MY WORD IF THE NEGATIVE ADS THAT MCCAIN SAID OK TOO WOULD HAVE WORKED MCCAIN, RNC AND THE MEDIA WOULD STILL BE PLAYING THEM AND ATTACKING OBAMA IN A MEAN WAY AGAIN.LOOK FOR THEM TO SHOW ADS AND TALK ABOUT THEM THAT MAKE OBAMA LOOK LIKE HE IS ATTACKING MCCAIN. NOW THAT THEY SEE THAT ATTACKING DOES NOT WORK THEY WILL SHOW OBAMA ATTACKING POOR MCCAIN.

Posted by peebs755

You mean lie about Obama attcking McCain. What happenes is Obama says something, usually in response to a McCain falsehood, then McCain jumps up and down pointing, and crying "he's being critical of me Wahhh".

Posted by see it real

Alex Witt is a right wing Republican herself who wants Liar McCain to be elected.  I'm sure she protected Liar Fredosso from the facts that expose him as a liar for that precise reason.

GOP-GE-NBC wants Liar McCain to be elected for both financial (defense contracts) and political reasons (Corporatist Conservative Fascist Republican Jack Welch, among others).
