Gannett News Service ignored McCain's shifting explanations on why he voted against tax cuts

Summary: A Gannett News Service "analysis" by Chuck Raasch asserted that Sen. John McCain "is vulnerable to the flip-flopper label" on taxes "because he voted against [President] Bush's tax cuts, calling them irresponsible without an accompanying resolve to cut government spending." But, while McCain makes that claim now -- that he voted against the tax cuts because of lack of offsetting spending cuts -- he gave a different reason on the Senate floor in 2001 to explain his opposition to the tax cut bill, which Raasch does not mention.

Yah whatever else Yohnny can't afford to appear to be critcal of the major benificiaries of the tax cuts. Dubious usefulness as many previous shrub supporters are trying to join the Obama bandwagon.

mmfa has repeatedly taken shots at McCain for being guilty of flip-flopping on tax cuts and amnesty for illegal aliens.

In reality, what McCain is guilty of is pandering political strategy...just like most career politicians.

On these two issues...McCain is no flip flopper...despite his dishonest rhetoric. After the campaigning is over...as president or senator... he will oppose across the board tax cuts and support amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens currently residing in the U.S....the spots won't disappear on this leopard.

As a conservative I certainly cannot support the liberal views of Obama or Clinton. Will I support McCain? I don't know...right now I'm leaning to the old throw-away protest write-in vote.

Aside from their stances on the war in Iraq...McCain has the smell of democrat-lite...similar to a lot of the current republicans.

A viable third party is looming just over the horizon.

Call it what you like Democrats are routinely savaged in the press for the same behavior.
