O'Reilly compared Moulitsas to white supremacist David Duke

Summary: Bill O'Reilly compared Markos Moulitsas, founder of the progressive Daily Kos blog, to white supremacist David Duke and criticized Newsweek for its decision to hire Moulitsas as a regular contributor, stating: "And Newsweek magazine, by the way, has legitimized him by giving him a columnist position. I talked to the editor by email, and I said I can't believe that you're -- that's like hiring David Duke. Again, I use Duke too much, but I have to -- the level of hatred coming out of that website is unprecedented."

More like the level of hysteric hatred coming from YOU, O'Reilly.

Posted by pointofview in reply to archae

BO was right on this one.  Moulitsas is disquisting, and in now way should he be hired by Newsweek.  But, it is just another example of the heavy left wing media bias in this country.  The pictures his site put up with the photos from the wedding of Jeena Bush served no purpose whatsoever.

The left goes nuts when the media refers to McCain as a maverick, but defends this guy and his trash site.  BO was 100 percent right.

Posted by dbeden4153 in reply to pointofview

Moulitsas is disgusting?  Why do you hate our troops?

Posted by pointofview in reply to dbeden4153

When he says he does NOT care that men are fighting and dying for this country, i have no use for him.  I dont hate the troops....I hate people like him who spread the vile hate he does, and does not care about those in combat.

Posted by nerzog in reply to pointofview

Actually, I think he said that he feels nothing for those fighting and dying for PROFIT. Slight difference.......or don't you do nuance?

Posted by snoopy in reply to nerzog

Are you kidding? He loves him some Michael Medved.

"Senators Obama, Clinton and other leaders who seek to enlarge the scope of government face more formidable obstacles than they realize. Their desire to impose a European-style welfare state and a command-and-control economy not only contradicts our proudest political and economic traditions, but the new revelations about American DNA "

Courtesy of the republican's very own Michael Medved.

Posted by nerzog in reply to snoopy

Medved is a douchebag. He insisted once that Hollywood only cares about money, then turned around and said Hollywood made unprofitable R-rated movies just to push their agenda.

Posted by nerzog in reply to snoopy

That's an "interesting" column.... I wonder what point he thinks will be implied about the modern descendants of slaves? Remember those two guys who were doing the lecture circuit years ago, claiming that Blacks were "genetically" less intelligent than whites? This sounds like it could be headed in the same direction.

Posted by snoopy in reply to nerzog

It totally is. From previous discussions Medved has said that the watering down of original slave blood by their white masters has bred out the bad by replacing it with superior blood.

That shows how much YOU know, POV - which isn't much.  I've been active in US politics since 1960, when I was only seven years old.  I've probably FORGOTTEN more about politics than you have ever learned, based on your inane posts here.  Now - go somewhere, open a book, and get a clue.

Posted by BlagoBoy in reply to wzwriter

At least you'd LIKE to forget a lot in politics since 1960, since the despicable far left which you love has won very little AND when it has it's managed to destroy the country.

Posted by BottleBlonde in reply to SueEld

That's crazy talk.

Bill O'Reilly does participate in hate talk. So do many of the people that comment on his blog. FreeRepublic posters, as well as DailyKos posters, do not restrain themselves, but Kos does.

Markos is not the same as David Duke. He's not even as obnoxious as Bill O'Reilly.

See what righty, Bill O'Reilly supporters sent to the Daily Kos website - talk about hate speech! Here's the first two...

http://www.dailykos.com/

You are a queer little f***** retard!!  Stay gay you c*** s****er!!

You have gone too far with this liberal, fascist bull****....sit down and SHUT UP and stop posting despicable stories to further your own ends. I am sick and tired of the radical left and I hope people like Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck can exert their influence to SHUT YOU DOWN!!!!! If you don't like America, get the f*** out!

Posted by MoonbatYouBet in reply to pointofview

Most despicable man in the country?  Off the chart hate?  Worse than David Duke?

Do you seriously believe that Markos and DKos are even close to those descriptions?  Where was O'Reilly's outrage for the past 10 years or so while the major right wing blogs were preaching violence towards "the damn liberals" and wishing death and torture upon Democratic leaders?  Where was his anger when Malkin posted the real physical addresses of bloggers she disagreed alongside a faux plea to "Not do anything harmful with the information"?

As for his complaints of lefty blogs somehow cheapening the political discourse of this country, really?  It seems to me that the rise of wingnut AM radio, pundits like BO, Hanity, Coulter and the programming of Fox News itself has done far more to do that than the blogs on either side.

O'Reilly's just steamed that the left is fighting back using the same tactics that have been used against them for so long.

Posted by roundhouse in reply to MoonbatYouBet

Amen, moonbat.

Personally, I think BO is pissed because Kos dug up that video of O'Reilly throwing a violent temper tantrum when he worked for Inside Edition. Well, that's not the only reason of course. Kos and the bloggers take the fight for hearts and minds to the people. Now that the real playing field has been identified Kos and the rest are winning the culture war.

Posted by carlileb5935 in reply to archae

No, O'Reilly's totally correct about the hate level over there, but he's wrong about the Duke comparison. That's ridiculous.

One of the reasons I've lost total respect for the DAILY KOS is that when he and the others use the same vitriolic language to describe Hillary Clinton as they do Bush and Cheney, you can't take them seriously. It's moronic and dishonest.

About 99% of the hate is generated by Obama supporters-- which is going to doom him in November if he gets the nom.

Posted by Genghiz in reply to pearlene_scott1602

Are you suggesting that Obama supporters are incapable of hatred, Pearlene? You must of heard of what happened to Tavis Smiley, didn't you?

Posted by open_mind in reply to Genghiz

I think it is pretty safe to say it isn't anywhere near 99%.
I think O'Reilly is missing (perhaps intentionally) a critical distinction between someone who provides a forum in which some people write despicable things, and those who write the despicable things themselves. Clearly there is a lot of hatred and misinformation spread on Daily Kos, but that is the fault of those who write there, not those who merely supplied the forum for free speech. If O'Reilly were truly a free speech advocate, he would not being calling for this.

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to interestingobserver

How dare you mention free speech!!  Cut his mic...!

Posted by dbeden4153 in reply to Kyle_Broflovski

And F*** it! We'll do it live!

...F***ing thing sucks!

It's getting ridiculous when even HE acknowledges that he uses David Duke a lot.  You know, when you use one thing over and over, it kinda loses its effectiveness.  It's like Michael Scott's favorite line "that's what she said."  After the 456th reference, it loses its charm and spontaneity.

Posted by wookie in reply to dbeden4153

true, but KOS is just as bad.

Compare him with Digby. When the hate level reaches a certain point (99% from Obama fans) she slices the comments. And now she moderates them all the time.

She's rational. And fair-minded. He's not.

BO is correct on this topic.  Daily Kos & Huffington Post are websites that contain minimal on par content, while promoting far left moonbat rhetoric.

MMFA at least provides some reliable data to backup their viewpoints, regardless how parsing many of them are, but still there is something.  KOS and HP do nothing but promote liberal agenda lies - like the accusation of McCain not voting for Bush.  I mean, cmon guys, they gotta do better than that.

Posted by friedbergboy1422 in reply to Science101

Columbus,

So those folks who back up Huffington's story about McCain not voting for Bush are lying too?  Could you please post some links to stories with misinformation and links showing what the true information is?

Thanks in advance.

Posted by shoes89 in reply to friedbergboy1422

Puh-leeze. HuffPo's claim that they were able to "back up" their story is a joke. Your objection only reinforces what O'Reilly is asserting.

Thank you.

Posted by Science101 in reply to friedbergboy1422

Are they liars too?  No, they are just morons for buying into a very clear lie.  Seeing as how McCain campaigned for Bush that election year, and even with Bush's approval rating of under 30%, McCain could have been wiser to say he didnt vote for Bush.  Only someone telling the truth against all costs right now would come out and say "I voted and campainged for Bush".

Its a he said/she said smear.  Arianna has zero proof of anything, and theres no way to disprove her.  So she can get away with creating a false story.  This isnt rocket science

Posted by friedbergboy1422 in reply to Science101

Columbus,

Please provide other stories then that are lies.  Thank you.

The people who backed up the story were people at the party who also heard the comment.  So, please explain how they "bought into a lie."

Posted by Science101 in reply to jawill11

Oh so they heard a he said/she said comment....but now its all the sudden true?  Id like to see/hear audio or video tape of this to prove its true.  Else its just a bogus lie.

Posted by jawill11 in reply to Science101

They heard McCain say it directly, you jackass.

I bet a defense attorney would love to have you on a jury if four eyewitness accounts is not enough for evidence, you need a/v to prove something happened.  What if the tape was doctored?  I think the only way to know anything has ever happened is if you see it first-hand.

Posted by open_mind in reply to Science101

Just out of curiosity.  Does anyone have a link where McCain, himself directly denies the accusation?

Posted by snoopy in reply to Science101

That's right. It's not rocket science. Just post some actual proof.

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to Science101

I didn't know that David Duke's far-left website was so popular!!  Why haven't I heard mention of it until now?

Posted by nerzog in reply to Science101

COLORECTUS, can you prove that Arianna Huffington has lied about anything?

Posted by Science101 in reply to nerzog

Can you prove that she has told the truth about them.  Lets see McCain campaigned for Bush in that election year.  Now she "says" he didnt vote for him.

But show me the proof of that.  Or is this another made up he said/she said from Arianna.

She has no solid proof of arguments.  Its all word of mouth.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Science101

McCain campaigned for Bush in 2000? I'll stand corrected but I don't remember that.

Posted by rtwmd1230 in reply to Science101

Nobody knows what lever McCain pulled when in the booth in 2000 (I'm not sure he remembers himself).  Arianna stated that McCain SAID he did not vote for Bush. This has been confirmed by two named guests at the party. A third guest at the party told the LA TIMES anonymously (as she is a friend of CIndy McCain's) that Mrs. McCain also said she didn't vote for Bush (she said she didn't vote for President in that election). McCain has produced no witnesses to support the claim that he did not say that he did not vote for Bush. So the supporting evidence is ALL on Arianna's side at this time.

Next lie, please?

Posted by nerzog in reply to rtwmd1230

Exactly. It's his word against hers.

Funny how these folks who are so certain that Arianna is a liar get their dander up if we point out the lies of Bush/Cheney. Hypocrisy is a two-way street, eh?

Posted by rtwmd1230 in reply to nerzog

Actually, it's her word and the word of three other people against his. Eye witnesses do carry some weight.

Posted by snoopy in reply to Science101

The burden of proof lies with the accuser. You made the accusation, now show us something besides "She's a liar because I said she's a liar, dammit!".

Posted by open_mind in reply to snoopy

Technically, Arianna is the accuser here and several others at the party.  The burden is on her and her friends.

Columbus has no basis to call Huffington a liar either for that matter.  Was Columbus at the party?

I don't think one can say conclusively what happened.  I am interested in what precisely McCain said to rebut Arianna.  Does anyone have that?

Posted by rtwmd1230 in reply to open_mind

McCain has stated that he voted for Bush. He has not denied saying at the party that he did not vote for Bush, so technically, he has not refuted her statement (to my knowledge).

MMFA complains about context in the earlier thread, that the WSJ leaves out the actual charge itself, yet why do they not include the link to the vile pictures that O'Reilly refers to on Daily Kos and the reason for his David Duke comparison?

Tommy, it's appalling that you're trying to hold mmfa to the same journalistic standards that it decrees for others . . . shame on you

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to tommy

Because showing the atrocities of war is morally equivalent to blatant racism and bigotry?  Is that what you're saying, Tommy?

At least Bush pretended to give up golf, in a show of solidarity with the sacrifices of our soldiers.  I wonder how he's managing, seeing as he hasn't golfed in nearly 5 years now.  Imagine the toll that must be taking on his mental health.  Imagine the toll it's taken on his butt-buddy, McCain.

Posted by pete592 in reply to tommy

Excellent point about the pictures, but I can't even find it at Kos, not yet at least.  But O'Reilly does not link to it either, so be sure to notify him of your outrage as well.

You have no point about the reason for the David Duke comparison.  O'Reilly made the comparison, but it is he who did not elaborate.  The juxtaposition of Jenna Bush enjoying a young-adult life free from combat does not make Markos a racist cult leader, so it's on O'Reilly to explain it.

Posted by pete592 in reply to pete592

Excellent point about there being no link, I should have said.  :-)

Posted by tommy in reply to pete592

So it's because Jenna Bush is not fighting in combat in a foreign conflict due to it being her father's war that has you upset?  Ah, ok.

Posted by pete592 in reply to tommy

Like clockwork.  Cherry pick my post for a chance to take a shot at me.

Someone once told me, "ignore the message, trash the messenger."

Posted by pete592 in reply to pete592

And derail the thread as an added bonus.

Posted by tommy in reply to pete592

Pete, Why would you include it at all then, the fact that Jenna Bush has a "young adult life free from combat" - what possible relevance does that have to anything?  I didn't take a shot, it seems to me that you did with that gratutious swipe at Jenna Bush.

Posted by pete592 in reply to tommy

I was conveying what I surmise the Kos poster was trying to convey.  That way, I can further the case that conveying such a thing is not tantamount to hatred and violence toward an entire race of people, and thus, invalidating O'Reilly's comparison.

It was not my intention to derail the thread into a p***ing contest over  George W's lack of tangible sacrifice during his war.  That intent belongs to you.

Posted by tommy in reply to pete592

So you were rationalizing the pictures used by Kos next to Bush's wedding photos, and by trying to invalidate O'Reillys comparison to Duke because Duke's a racist, and the Kos guy just hates Bush, not an entire race?

I think O'Reilly's comparison went directly to hatred and the spreading of it......he is hardly one to talk, and the comparison may be over the top and not an exact match, but the Daily Kos is full of hatred, Duke certainly is, and for good measure, so is O'Reilly.  As I said, they all deserve one another.

Posted by open_mind in reply to tommy

I've never really spent much time on Kos, but it is really a low blow to go after family members like that.  I agree with Tommy on that point.

Posted by rtwmd1230 in reply to pete592

But he gave up golf!

Posted by snoopy in reply to rtwmd1230

Nah, he just pretended to give up golf. But right wingers will never admit that, being a bush bit&h is more important than being an american...

Posted by dbeden4153

I can't believe he actually calls out the comments section of the Daily Kos, again.  Has he visited www.hannity.com?  or his own web-site?  I've spent considerable amount of time there and there's been the same level of hate on those web-sites for years as has been on the Daily Kos or Huffington Post.  And you know what?  That's completely fine, because that's free speech.  The beauty of the internet is that anyone with a keyboard and a web connection can use it as a forum to voice their opinions.  You know, not everyone has a prime-time slot on cable news, Bill.

And is he really that blind to the arrogance of President Bush?  Mr. "I gave up golf to support the troops"?  Man, that must suck to sacrifice such an integral part of your life to show solidarity with our fighting men and women.  Unless, of course, he didn't.

Actually, both O'Reilly and his Toady guest are using a StrawMan here. They're accusing Kos of saying that Bush has no right to celebrate a wedding. No, not quite. All you black and white thinkers follow along, I'll try to keep it simple. Kos is juxtaposing the luxurious, carefree lifestyle enjoyed by President Numbnuts against the carnage his asinine policies have created. Get it? Kos is making the point that Bush is, and probably will remain, untouched by the mess he's handing off to the next President. He has not been held accountable.... even on the most superficial level. His mewlings about "his pain" and giving up golf ring hollow, especially as we watch him spend more money on a wedding than most soldiers make in three years.

Is it hamhanded, maybe a little distasteful? Sure. But at least be honest about the point he's trying to make.

That's nonsense, pure and simple. There are huge differences between the groups. There are examples of extremes on both sides, it's true, but the attitude and the behavior of those on the far right is demonstrably much worse than the average person on the far right. The hatred is more intense and less reasonable, the vitriol is much more personal rather than substantial and objective. There's nothing comparable to the average rightwing bigot on the left.

It always amuses me to hear right-wing Repugnicans whining about hatred on the left. My god, the whining is endless on this. The irony is, the entire Repugnican and so-called conservative ideology is rooted in fear and hatred: hate the gays, hate the Muslims, hate the illegal immigrants, fear the "Islamofascists," fear the terrorists. There's not one positive aspect to the Repugnican way of thinking, not one forward-looking idea, yet they never cease crying about hate speech from Kos, Huffpo, and other left-wing blogs. Jesus, right-wingers, you've got the entire American news media working to promote your ignorant and hate-filled ideology. Why can't the left have a few blogs?

The extreme left HATES what is being done to this country.  The extreme right hates simply because it makes them feel good (and duping the electorate into voting them into prower by pandering fear and hate was an extra special side benefit.  But the emporer finally has no clothes and the voters finally have realized it).
