CBN's David Brody described male blogger as Fred Thompson's "angry girlfriend"

In an August 21 post on his CBNnews.com blog, titled "Fred, You're Such a Tease!," Christian Broadcasting News senior national correspondent David Brody addressed speculation surrounding when, or if, former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN) would officially announce his presidential candidacy. After asserting that "Thompson is playing this thing like the cool, handsome jock in high school who teased all the girls who wanted to go out with him," Brody went on to discuss a federal complaint blogger Lane Hudson filed against Thompson, accusing the former senator of violating the Federal Election Commission's (FEC) "testing the waters" clause. Brody wrote: "Well, now Fred Thompson has an angry girlfriend. His name (don't go there) is Lane Hudson." Brody then reproduced part of an August 20 Associated Press article on Hudson's complaint.

Oh please, who is this ninny buttinskly blogger named Hudson anyway? Filing a federal complaint about this?  Has he not got anything better to do with his time?

Angry girlfriend or not, he sounds like a petty whiner.

Calling attention to Hollywood Fred Thompson flaunting the rules is not "whining," Tommy.

Or is this another case of "it's ok because he's a republican?"

Posted by tommy in reply to archae

No, his party is irrelevant to me.  If this busybody blogger has nothing better to do than file a complaint such as this, so be it.

Posted by archae in reply to tommy

Following the rules is the important issue here, Tommy.

If Hillary, Obama and the rest can follow the rules, so can Thompson.

The blogger in question is apparently doing the job the FEC is supposed to do.

Posted by Computer in reply to archae

Obama is following the rules.  Hillary is not.  Her good friend Mr. Hsu seems to have been in some trouble before and has a bit of an integrity problem.  She ought to return all money given to her by him and his associates.  Just another reason why we need the change Obama brings and not more of the corruption that seems to follow Hillary around.

Actually Tommy, Lane is a nice guy. He's more interested in fair play than politics.

Met him when he worked for Human Rights Campaign. He was more concerned about the safety of the Pages than his job.

The "angry girlfriend" thing is pure homophobic cr@p. Someone tries to do the right thing and make people in power obey the law and they say something like that. Kinda answers the question, "why are more and more people so unhappy with the republican party?"

Tommy actually what Lane Hudson is doing is called democracy, participating in government run by the people. If more people were to participate I believe we would have politicians who actually listen to what the people want and not which group has the most money to give them.

Haven't YOU got anything better to do with YOUR time than litter the MMFA discussion threads with worthless pap, Tommy?

In writing circles, this is known as "autobiography". In psychology circles, "projection".

Really, Tommy, do you not clearly see YOURSELF in your "attacks" here?

Do you really think if you can just try to belittle the blogger, then Thompson hasn't violated any rules or laws? Sheesh.

Tommy you might ask Mark Foley what he thinks about Mr. Hudson. I don't think he'd have much nice to say about him either.

Posted by tommy in reply to eweston8542983

Mr. Foley's opinion of this blogger is of no interest to me.  If Mr. Hudson feels his time is worth filing this complaint, then more power to him.

Perhaps he would better serve his blog if he were to advocate the positions and stances on issues that his Democratic candidates are campaigning on....you know, things that really matter?

Posted by sonicphobia in reply to tommy

Are you serious?

Was he also wasting his time when he sent Foley's emails to Time?

Would you have said Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward were wasting their time too?

Posted by princeofwheels in reply to tommy

I agree with you, Tommy. Same goes for the Hannitys', Rushs' etc. They would better serve everyone if they worried more about the issues and platforms of the Republan candidates and less about the Dems. I understand that they are just "commentators" but this blogger is just a "blogger".

Tommy,

These are election LAWS, so Fred needs to be a LAW and ORDER kind of guy.  Clinton's impeachment was initiated over a sex lie, about the most trivial thing I can think of.  Republicans need to walk the talk or reap what they sow.

Boy that David Brody sure is clever.  Lane Hudson Fred's angry girlfriend!  C'mon, everyone knows he prefers them prettier, taller, smarter and in much better shape than little ole Laney.

Seriously though, Lane should spend the next few weeks thinking of ways to busy himself when Fred does officially announce, cuz it's gonna be Off The Hook!  All the tired old candidates out there already are all losing steam since, like the guy in high school that showed up at your party at 5:00, they all announced way to early and they all are recycling their same old rhetoric with nothing serious or original to say now.  Fred has been taking his time, putting together a solid team that works well together and is gonna work like a well-oiled machine once he's ready to jump in the water.  this is precisely what makes so many folks nervous.  It's like all these self-annointed prom queens waiting for the real winner to enter the room.

Seeing as CBN is run by an ersatz minister (Pat Robertson), I believe that no respectable journalist would work there.  Only the dregs of journalism schools who couldn't get a job anywhere else report for CBN.

Filing a complaint, that would be something a concerned citizen might do. Getting involved with the process. Being part of the process, versis a silent, compliant, and helpless feeling citizen/potential victim. More Hudsons please.

Posted by juliajayne in reply to eweston8542983

I agree. Hudson has a legit complaint. Active, participatory democracy at work.

From the link in the article:

"Federal law allows potential candidates to raise money to travel, conduct polls and pay for other expenses related to "testing the waters" for a political campaign. During that exploratory period, a potential candidate does not have to file financial reports with the FEC.

The law prohibits anyone who is "testing the waters" from hoarding the money for use during his actual campaign. Potential candidates also cannot refer to themselves as candidates, can't run ads that publicize their intention to campaign or take steps to qualify for the ballot in a primary or caucus state.

According to a financial report filed late last month, Thompson had raised nearly $3.5 million and had had spent $625,000. Thompson must raise money within federal contribution limits and must report it to the FEC once he becomes an official candidate."

Further, Thompson benefits from re-runs of Law & Order without other candidates demanding equal time.

I have heard so many complain about the Law and Order reruns. That is the dumbest thing I have heard around the election.

Posted by mary59 in reply to ben

Dumb, eh?  And "complaining"  Nice framing, while you know that what people see on television, they believe.

Actors and their personas meld...Thomson's whole folksy schtick works for him with a segment of the population.  That's why he only drives his red pick-up (instead of the usual lexis) during campaigns.

It's a political calculation not to announce.

Posted by david080765 in reply to mary59

If I'm not mistaken, NBC has said that they won't telecast any L&O episodes on which Thompson appears.  I'm not sure about any of the cable networks like TNT.

Posted by roundhouse

" The complaint means nothing because Thompson is going to get in."

Conservatives so blatantly show no respect for laws. They then have the damn nerve to get all huffy when their sh7t is proven stinkey.

The complaint is absolutely valid, Thompson can't keep that 'testing the waters money' for campaigning.

I've suspected all along Thompson has been trying to skirt maximum campaign donation rules by sockin' away money and waiting so long to announce his candidacy.

"Oh please, who is this ninny buttinskly blogger named Hudson anyway? Filing a federal complaint about this? Has he not got anything better to do with his time?"

Well that's sure a clever variation of the "why is this here" post.

It's just about as effective too.

FYI. In a democracy such as this there are no "buttinskly"s (sic).

There are concerned citizens however.

Perdiction here: F. Thompson will deside to run on Sept 6.  That way he will not have to file with the FEC until Jan.  That way no one will know who has given him money and how much.  By then most of the early states will have been desided.  Thats why he is waiting so he can hide till its to late.

David Brody is a Christian broadcaster, a right winger, a Republican, & a homophobe.

Therefor, the only reasonable conclusion that can be arrived at is that he is a desperate, closeted gay man... who undoubtedly downloads hours upon hours of the Savage Weiner.

Its only common sense... y'know?

Posted by mary59 in reply to mescal

"Christian" isn't a good description of this person; as nowhere in the New Testament is this kind of rhetoric demonstrated or supported.  Christianity as practiced today resembles the teachings of Christ very little.

Wish there was a different word for religious persons who act in the opposite manner as the teachings of their faith.

Hypocrite?

"Angry girlfriend"? What is it with this crowd and their macho taunts?Quite frankly, this kind of chest beating over compensation is embarrassing, and probably dangerous.

Posted by loislap

You are quite right Mary-these are not the words of so called "Christian" men. These are the words of vindictive lying cowards.Alarmingly repressed cowards.
