GMA casts Gonzales scandals as partisan: "For Democrats, it's another scalp to hang on the wall"

Summary: On Good Morning America, correspondent David Wright asserted that "[w]ere it not for the scandals, [President] Bush had hoped to make" outgoing Attorney General Alberto Gonzales "the first Hispanic justice on the U.S. Supreme Court." Wright also reported that Gonzales' resignation "is being welcomed on both sides of the aisle" because "[f]or Democrats, it's another scalp to hang on the wall; and for Republicans, it's a huge distraction that now goes away." In fact, several Republicans have joined Democrats in calling for Gonzales to resign.

Hmm, let a rogue administration run rampant in its lust for absolute power, or go scalpin'?

I'll take scalpin'.

These guys just seem to love the torture metaphors.  Oh, the irony.

So, now Bush, doing his best to emulate Henry the VIII, is single again and looking for a new bride. You ladies, pay no attention to all those new piles of dirt out by the moat. It's a real honor to be asked into THIS guy's bed!

Right scandal after scandal from the GOP and the REAL problem is that the Dems are benifitting or something. Somehow all this GOP malfeasance MUST be the Dems fault

Posted by bittermarv in reply to solon

Hell, I figure it's gotta be Clinton's fault!

Posted by deeznuts in reply to bittermarv

Yes. Definitely Clinton's fault.

Heck, the US attorney firing scandal is the reason Hillary personally shot Vince Foster.

I thought everybody knew that!

The media treatspolitics like it's some kind of sport. They are ridiculous. Anyway it's' more apt to describe these departures as rats are jumping off the sinking SS Bush or I was watching Ladder 49 last night and rats were hauling it out of the burning building as the firefighters were running in and for some reason all these Bush adminsitration departures came to mind.

Lynn it had to be the rats ;-)

There has to be an investigation of ABC by Media Matters; they constantly take the admin's side on most matters or trivializes them, especially Gonzales; check out the Nightline story last night; it wasn't even the top story

Not to worry about Gonzo. By Saturday, he will have no recollection of ever being in Washington.

The scary part is that Gonzo would be on the Supreme Court.....Hell, as crazy as this Administration is, they STILL may nominate him. Just kidding, not.

Maybe just maybe we will get an Attorney General who can actually read and comprehend the DOJ's mission statement:

To enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign and domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.

You know, good old Gonzo could have avoided this while entire mess by doing one, little, teeny, itty bitty thing. Tell the truth when under oath in the Senate and the House. I mean, it really was, and is, that easy. Don't perjure yourself, and don't use the DOJ as a political football. Problems solved.

The one thing that really comes at me with this whole Gonzales thing is how much more respect I have now for Ashcroft than I did before. He, you know, actually believed and enforced the laws of the US and adhered to the Constitution.

Maybe he was following the Clinton plan re: truth under oath.

DOH!

Hahahahahah

See other poster's comments above about Torture-boy's demise being Clinton's fault...

To say that Gonzales makes Ashcroft look good is more a comment on Gonzales than on Ashcroft.
