Hannity continued to bash carbon offsets -- no mention of Murdoch's purported plans to use them
On the July 9 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, during a discussion of the recent Live Earth concert series -- a 24-hour, 7-continent concert series to raise awareness for issues related to global warming -- co-host Sean Hannity criticized the concept of purchasing carbon credits to offset one's "carbon footprint" as a "joke" and a "fraud." Guest Chris Horner, senior fellow for the energy industry-funded Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), joined Hannity in bashing carbon offsets, likening the system to a priest who buys "adultery offsets." This is only the latest example of Hannity attacking carbon offsets and, in particular, former Vice President Al Gore's reported use of them. However, Hannity has yet to address News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch's pledge to take steps -- including the use of carbon offsets -- "to be carbon neutral, across all our businesses" -- which includes Fox News -- "by 2010."

I wonder how much time good Catholic Hannity spends in confession each Saturday for the lies he tells during 15 hours of radio and 6 hours of TV Sunday through Friday....

Residents and employees first noticed a high- pitched whining noise coming from the shrubbery on the side yard. On further investigation, Officers discovered an obviously mentally disabled middle-aged man with a large head, a clipboard, a navy blazer and no pants fixated on the electrical meter.
The transients identity has not been released pending notification of the GOP.

Mystery solved. However, need some technical help here from a qualified individual to wrap things up: How much current would it take to remove the testicles of someone, say, of Shyawn's approximate height and weight while "fixated" on an electrical meter?

Straw man. Media Matters doesn't say that Murdoch's actions should have a bearing on Hannity's opinion. They are asking the obvious question of WHY Hannity hasn't mentioned that his boss supports Gore's position.

Why would you say that Murdoch is evil? Is it because he is a capitalist? Or because he is a conservative? Or because his news organizations report things disagreeable to your world-view?
Doesn't Hannity demonstrate 'journalistic independence' by calling 'offsets' a "sham," when the owner has bought into it?

My husband works for the Fox affiliate in Dallas (don't get on me - the station has been owned by 5 different companies and may be owned by someone else in the future). Rupert Murdoch has initiated several plans as easy as using reusable cups (instead of throwways) and offering as much as a $4,000.00 check for buying a Prius. So he does seem to be serious about doing "green" things. And I would say anybody who doesn't get on the green bandwagon is going to wish they were SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. The fact that I don't like Rupert Murdochs rapacious hold on media outlets doesn't cloud the fact that he is doing something tangible. And he probably sees it as an economic opportunity as well. That's smart since regardless of the deadenders, global warming is real and we do need to change behaviors.
I have done things like change all of my lightl bulbs and guess what, my energy bill is lower. I just had to purchase a new washer and went with an energy efficient front loader that uses a lot less water as well.
My point is we need leadership on this issue and if it takes Rupert Murdoch or anybody else, I'm all for it. As for poor Sean, he is deadender and has no credibility on this or any other issue.

It's fine that Murdoch is doing things within his empire to save the world. But he could do infinitely more if he didn't do so much to get rapacious, ignorant Republicans elected all the time. They have fought tooth and nail against reality, science and the environmental movement. It's as though he shot a blue whale with a rocket propelled grenade and now you praise him for putting a band aid on the thing. Sorry to be overly harsh but the guy has really been a blight on humanity for decades now.

Again, sorry about the harsh. Just one more example. You point out the lameness of Hannity. He's on the air, influencing millions of dunderheads because Murdoch puts him there. If he wants to help the environment, he would end the pollution from the dozens of Hannities he has given so much influence to. Reusable cups doesn't really negate the damage done by the Bush administration that he did so much to help create.

Unless one agrees with me they are evil? That's a silly assertion. You're accusing me of being a sociopath because you don't agree with me? Tricky. One could perhaps make a case that starting a war on purpose for political reasons might one measure of what evil is. The pain screaming in the stump of every amputee and on the seared flesh of every burned child in Baghdad might be considered evil. These things are real my friend and they didn't need to happen. To many of us, the lead up to the war was an obvious lie. Murdoch with his Fox was one of the prime culprits in helping Bush sell his lie. Agreeing with me has nothing to do with it. But there might be evil in the world anyway.

NEW ELEMENT "Du" DISCOVERED
A major research institution (probably funded by a government subsidy) has just announced the discovery of the densest element yet known to science. The new element has been named "Bushcronium". Bushcroniumhas one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 311.
These particles are held together by dark forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. The symbol for Bushcronium is "Du", as the symbol "W" was already taken by Tungsten.Bushcronium' s mass actually increases over time, as morons randomly interact with various elements in the atmosphere and become assistant deputy neutrons in a Bushcronium molecule, forming isodopes.
This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to believe that Bushcronium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as "Critical Morass".
When catalyzed with money, Bushcronium activates Foxnewsium, an element that radiates orders of magnitude more energy, albeit as incoherent noise, since it has 1/2 as many peons but twice as many morons. The "nucular" reaction alluded to below where Du combines with Foxnewsium (Fx) when bombarded by a moron beam yields: Du + m (morons) + Fx = DumFx which is sometimes phonetically pronounced to describe the nature of the isodope produced.Although Faux Noise is the only “news” element mentioned in the formula, any other “news” element, i.e., CNN, ABC, CBS, WoPo, WSJ, etc., could be used just as well and get the same isodope.
I would like to say that I come up with this witty but overlooked scientific discovery. However, it was sent to me and I know not from where it came. I just want as many citizens as possible to think about it and ponder its message.

That's what I thought, you couldn't find any 'other' carbon credit companies, either. Someone once used a failed analogy comparing Bill Gates using Microsoft to Al Gore using his carbon credit comany. What that poster failed to mention is that there are no other carbon credit companies. He was afraid to answer that question, too. So don't feel so bad.
My point is that gore is part owner of the only carbon credit company...and...he is falsely scaring others into using his company by using his false premise that using his company will save the world. He wants us to pay attention to his message, but fails to mention that he is the only provider of the service he sells. If that was a conservative doing that, I can gaurantee that mmfa would have it posted all over the headlines for the next week or two.

Comparing carbon offsets to adultery is so stupid. In producing carbon dioxide, you are contributing to a global problem and not directly harming one individual. From http://www.carbonfund.org/site/pages/why_offset/
Offsetting your carbon footprint allows you to become part of the solution to climate change by supporting the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions equal to your carbon emissions.
Carbon offsets can be more cost effective and practical than many other measures an individual can take. (However, it is important to take action to also reduce your energy use. To see what practical steps you can take to reduce your carbon footprint before offsetting, see Save Energy) For instance, it is more cost effective and better for our environment to build a 100 MW wind energy farm in Minnesota than a 5 kW windmill in your own backyard.

I agree. Let's start though by putting the wind generators around Martha's Vineyard and on the mountain in Aspen. That way the Hollywood holier than thou crowd can really see we mean business. Next we need a wind farm on the TN side of the Great Smokey MT. national park. That way Mr. Gore can have a good view. Then we can start work on the farm in MN. Just as long as we spread the wealth...I'm all for it.
