On Glenn Beck, Shapiro misrepresented NY Times poll's Obama findings

On the June 28 edition of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck, conservative columnist Ben Shapiro claimed that "the funniest thing about" a June 15-23 New York Times/CBS News/MTV poll of 17- to 29-year-olds "was the idea that people were looking very closely at" the 2008 presidential race. According to Shapiro: "[Y]ou had a poll question about whether people thought that they would vote for someone who had used cocaine, and they said, by vast majorities, no. And yet, they said the candidate they were most enamored of was Barack Obama, who has admitted to using cocaine. So, clearly, they're not following all that closely." But Shapiro misrepresented the first poll question he referenced: It did not ask whether the respondent would personally vote for a candidate who admitted to having used cocaine; it asked whether the respondent thought "most people you know would vote for a presidential candidate who has ever used cocaine." [Emphasis added.]

Apparently, these guys aren't following all that closely either.

Well, they didn't have any trouble voting for cocaine and alcohol addict in chief, Bush.

None of it changes the fact he's getting a LOT of contributions from corporate America and is very chummy with AIPAC....he's their back-up to Hillary. But we're not supposed to judge these people on their stance on issues or follow the money trails. We're just supposed to look at the poll numbers and discuss irrelevancies. To drink the kool-aid like good little American subjects of the corporatist state.

I'd heard a large percentage were small contributions $100, but I'm not sure where, Air America probably.

Your sources RK?

Counterpunch. It's full of articles about the real Obama. And the real Hillary. And the real Dem Party. It don't drink the kool-aid, red or blue. It's REAL liberal media.

Also of note, most of the "editorialists" lack the polish and proficiency of erstwhile predecessors in published opinion; some appear to lack even spell-check, although most are good. However, none (in several months I have read the on-line) seem absolutely certain what their point is, none clear on how to express it, and none capable of driving home that elusive concept. Reminds one of a collection of loosely related essays by HS juniors, sharing only opposition to the commonplaces of politics and society.

The point seems as clear as day...responsible, accountable, moral government that acts in the best interests of the people and not as agents of the rich and powerful. Counterpunch is a good source of information on corporate and political abuses of power and crimes. Far better than any McMedia outlet.

Anyone without sin, cast the first stone. We have all done things in our youth that we would never do as adults. The fact that the only things that can be used against Obama are from the 80s shows that the digging is really getting deep! Ok, so, what do we have? A middle name that is a family name, a few parking tickets, and a youthful experiment with drugs. I wish I only had that on my record. This will not influence the vote. Bush used cocaine, too, and he got elected twice for corn sake. So, keep on digging, and you with the shovels probably have a lot more than this on your record.
