Well, I am a Trekkie. "Spocko" is what Kirk called Spock during the episode "A Piece of the Action" - because it sounded more "gangster-y". The society of the planet they were on was based on 1930's-era gangsters. So, his handle is referring back to a specific Star Trek episode.

I should have been a bit more clear. I find it amusing when people mess up metaphors, cliches, and the like. So, I was comparing Rodgers statement "...getting into the proverbial peeing contest with a skunk." (which makes little sense) to Limbaugh's ""...slaughter a cow to get the butter..." statement (which also makes little sense).

And, I don't know for *sure* that's where Spocko got his psuedonym - that's just what makes the most sense to me. I suppose he could have just picked a random letter to put on the end because "Spock" was already taken at his ISP... *shrug* I like my version better, though. I liked that episode, so I like his pseudonym - it makes me smile.

I do have to agree with many others here, though - I am *astounded* at the depths of not caring Rodgers is displaying. I think he should maybe take out a full-page ad in the SF Chronicle to reiterate how much he simply DOESN'T CARE and DOESN'T PAY ATTENTION to all this "left-wing" stuff.

The criticism of Spocko for using a Star Trek character's name in his blogging is an ad hominem attack - in other words, Rodgers and Morgan can't dispute the content of Spocko's words, so they have to attack his name, as if having a more dignified handle gives you integrity. If that was the case, I could make a few points about "Bush".

Also, let's remember that Spocko, or anyone else for that matter, cannot take away Morgan's right to free speech - only the U.S. government could do that. Fact is, any employer you work for could fire you if you say something they don't agree with. That has nothing whatsoever to do with your right to free speech.

As others have pointed out, the conservative posters love to counter the items about righty media lies or craziness by pointing out the ratings.

I'm wondering how ratings are figured for TV and radio these days. I remeber the Nielsen boxes and journals, but are ratings collected through cable now or are surveys used. I'm dead serious, I don't have any idea.

I just find it interesting that many people who would fall into the "liberal" category get their info from many different sources. I watch Fox quite a bit, listen to righty radio, for laughs and to see what sort of propaganda my co-workers will come armed with.Are people like me counted in the ratings? Since most conservative people are probably more likely to get their info frrom a single source, or from only conservative sources, does that skew the ratings?

I was really, really hoping that Spocko would take the KSFO hosts up on their invitation to call in during their 3-hour special show this afternoon, but he was a no-show. I may not agree with the things heard on KSFO, but at least the Lee Rodgers, Melanie Morgan and Brian Sussman don't hide behind alter-egos and false names. Where was Spocko today? Perhaps hiding behind Mike Stark and clutching the hem of Mike's skirt?
