Despite lack of timetable, media persist in calling Bush's troop increase a "surge"

President Bush's January 10 prime-time address announcing his decision to send more than 20,000 additional troops to Iraq finally put to rest the debate over whether this long-awaited proposal represented a short-term "surge" or an open-ended "escalation" of the war. As Media Matters for America repeatedly noted during the days of coverage leading up to the speech, media figures have persisted in calling the forthcoming proposal a "surge" despite no indication that the troop increase would be temporary. Gee, ya think?

"The president admitted the short-term impact of the troop surge and going after Iraqi militias is likely to be an increase in U.S. casualties."

Sure it's going to translate into an increase in dead soldiers, but surge sure sounds sexier than body count.

Wait, body count's kinda sexy. How about sending more people to die for BS, fear and ego ? There you go, that's not sexy at all.

Gutsy, Mistakes, Increase in Casualties

It truly saddens me that because of the arrogance and stupidity of the Neo-Cons in the Bush Administration we are now in a war that was started without any justification, whatsoever. Even before we went into Iraq the refusal of Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, [link to en.wikipedia.org] and the other chicken hawks set the stage for the royal screw-up we have now. Their refusal, to listen to those who knew we were headed for disaster without proper preparation, has resulted in a complete disaster, both militarily and politically. [link to www.pbs.org] Now that the majority of Americans have finally got their heads out of there a$$ and see how utterly screwed up this “Operation Iraqi Freedom” was handled from the very beginning by the civilian “leadership” of our government we need to get the hell out of Iraq ASAP. Until we finally do leave, win or lose, more of our soldiers will have to pay a terribly high price for our excursion into Iraq and the sorry, at least up to this point, attempt to try and “Democratize” Iraq.
