Fox whitewashed Lott's 2002 resignation: "He ran into a little bit of difficulty"

Summary: Several discussions on Fox News about Sen. Trent Lott's candidacy for Senate minority whip have glossed over or omitted any explanation of exactly why Lott stepped down from his Senate leadership post in 2002 -- specifically, that Lott was forced to resign after praising Sen. Strom Thurmond's 1948 pro-segregationist presidential campaign.

Hmm

I wonder how often he will appear on BET news?

"a little difficulty"

...is like saying Lott's a little bit racist.

i can't figure out

why the republicans would do this. lott is damaged goods. i just saw some talking head on nbc nightly news talking about how good he is at organizing. maybe, but what does this say for the public image of the party, especially with mitch mcconnell being from kentucky. i've seen some conjecture that maybe the southern strategy has worked too well. that it's given the party a too conservative image, which is working against it in areas like the northeast. lincoln chaffe of rhode island lost his senate seat for one reason. he's a republican. the polls show that otherwise voters liked him. admittedly lott possibly just put his foot in his mouth, but when you're praising a guy who split with the democrats to run on a platform of segregation forever, you need to speak very carefully. if you watch the tape, you will see ol strom giving lott a look like boy you're gonna stir it up now.

Because Alexander...

is a lightweight backbencher.

maybe

but my point is anyone but lott. surely there had to be someone else.

LABELS:

Fox, led by Sean Hannity and his FBI video, have taken to stating that Jack Murtha is "Ethically Challenged". In fact, his name is not mentioned without the prefix "Ethically Challenged Jack Murtha" on FOX these days.

Of course, the FBI tried to catch Murtha in a "sting" of accepting cash, AND HE REFUSED. He was investigated, and cleared. So, of course, FOX feels entitled to smear and brand him, based on ... on WHAT? Speculation and innuendo ONLY. So much for "fair and balanced", when we have Lott, WHO ACTUALLY RESIGNED LEADERSHIP over his "views" on racial politics, being reinvented at the same time.

We have INNOCENT Murtha gaining a FOX smear prefix, while GUILTY Lott is being given a whitewash and a pass. That's our FOX.

Because for all his flaws

He has very good organizational skills and true talent is not all that common among the rightwing GOP.

another MMFA smear of FNC

MMFA apparently doesnt watch enough fox news. shep smith on the Fox Report discussed Lott's controversy at LENGTH and even aired the clip of it, saying many viewed it as racially insensitive.

MMFA must have decided to close up shop @ 2pm eastern and smear whatever data they gathered to count for the entire day. That is sloppy reporting and sloppy fact gathering.

Art

What is the smear? These are the facts that occured.

I think you are smearing MMFA.

Posted by therick in reply to artvandelay2006

Nice try Art-tomdelay.

But this wasn't the Shep Smith show now was it. I suppose next you'll argue that Fox is quality because they tell the whole truth some of the time.

You right wing nutjobs hate MMFA, because they play your quotes and shows it's visitors the your garbage. Straight from the horse's mouth.

Art, just keep hating. It is what we've come to expect from the right. There's a new congress in town, and now all you've got is talk.

Posted by artvandelay2006 in reply to therick

you lose

the mmfa headline was "FOX", thus implying ALL of fox news did this, when in fact that is MISLEADING and WRONG.

leave it to a liberal smear merchant's supporter to try and weasel his way out of this one.

Posted by mefirst in reply to artvandelay2006

it did happen on fox

correct?

By that "logic," Art

then the whole U.S. Senate should be condemned for Lott's racist comments.

Posted by kgonz in reply to artvandelay2006

this is your great defense?

You concede that on multiple FOX shows they DID NOT cover the whole story, but on ONE they did? And somehow, MMFA indicating that this is a trend on FOX is a SMEAR? You are desperate. You can't argue that Lott isn't actually racist, that his statements aren't relevant, or that the shows identified actually did cover the issue, so instead you claim that MMFA smears FOX by not indicating the one show on which they accurately reporting the story.

MMFA is dedcated to reporting conservative misinformation. They did that. They do not post when FOX actually does report accurately. You can't take your Republican blinders off and so you decide that something accurate is a smear. Pathetic.

You not only lose you are not in the game

Is your argument that if FOX EVER mentions this scandal they can then talk about the incident at length in all their other programs WITHOUT mentioning what happened? Yeah, that would suit someone who LOVES to be brainwashed the bottom line is clear, this DID happen, MMFA is absolutly correct. You have NO POINT

Lott

Art: The emperor has no clothes!!!!!

PS: Not much brain power either!!

This is clearly

This is clearly the work of an internal FOX memo. You can tell they are being made to say that the democratic leadership process is becoming bad for the democrats, and that the rise for Trent Lott is a comeback for the republicans. But how do you do that? Make sure they don't know the full story of Trent Lott.

Lott said

that the US would not have "had all those problems" had the leader of the Segregationist Party been elected President in 1948.

Everyone knew precisely what Lott meant, especially because of his long-standing relationship with "Justice Jim" Johnson and the Council of Concerned Citizens, (CCC, but may just as well be KKK).

Lott got less than what he deserved, but the GOP constantly has to prove that they're bigger bigots than the next guy, unless the next guy is Glenn Beck.

Lott

The right-wing trogs are up in arms about Lott's selection too. Which makes me wonder: who did support this bonehead move?

FOX IS SHAMELESS.

They are right back at it. At least Limbaugh admitted that he was carrying water for the Republicans and that he knew that what he was saying was garbage. Although he is apparently back to carrying water now and the admission was purely motivated by selfish reasons. He didn't want to lose his audience. FOX NEWS will get even worse now. As long as the paychecks come in, the clowns at FOX NEWS will continue with the prostitution.
