Media repeat GOP attacks on Pelosi as "extreme," "out of touch," ignoring House Dems' widely supported legislative agenda
For months, Republicans and conservative media figures have attacked House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA) by claiming that Pelosi, who would likely be elected speaker should Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives after the November 7 elections, is "extreme," "out of touch," and outside the "mainstream." These attacks have often been repeated uncritically in the media, despite the actual legislative agenda Pelosi has offered in the event that Democrats take the House, which boasts initiatives that draw broad support from the American public.

Out of the Mainstream?
Please, there is no such thing as 'mainstream'. If they want to talk about 'out of touch' how about how this administration is 'out of touch' with the majority of Americans opinion on the war in Iraq? For Republicans reality doesn't agree with what they want, so they just make up their own.

Wha?
Joe Scarborough claimed that Pelosi is "out of touch ... in so many districts across the country."
Gee whiz Joe, you mean in all those districts she doesn't represent?
Oh wait, I forgot that she will use the godlike powers that come with the Speakership to single-handedly enact the Librul Gay Agender. Booga booga!

Scarbourough's, O'Reilly's, and Koppel's margin of error is about 3 to 4 brains.

"If you tell a lie big enough..."
"... and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." -- Joseph Goebbels

Rusty, more imp0rtant..
Most of those who live in areas that bemoan "san fransicko" values would kill to have the economy and quality of life that those "fransickans" enjoy. There's a really, really good reason that all of the areas in this country that have highest real estate values and quality of life also tend to have a liberal bent. Most of "red america" would starve without the redistributed tax revenues from those damned "librul blue states"

Rhetorical. I know, but...
"While nine Vice Presidents have succeeded to the office upon the death or resignation of the President, and two Vice Presidents have temporarily served as Acting President, no other officer has ever been called upon to act as President." --Wikipedia

Yep
But the Republics would have you believe that if they don't elect the Republic candidate for dogcatcher of BF, Wyoming, then Nancy Pelosi will be measuring the Oval Office for new drapes.

extreme, indeed
Compared to the freak show that is currently in charge, I would think you'd be happy to bring in someone who at least will act to protect children instead of pulling a Cardinal Law to protect themselves.

I don't see a real difference.
What is really the difference between the old rastlin' coach Denny Hastert and Pelosi? Neither one would really object to a couple of sweaty men rolling around the floor. Would they?

I would agree that Pelosi is far too liberal for my tastes as well, based on her voting record. But to somehow throw out the scare tactic that she is two heartbeats away from the Presidency is about as unlikely a prospect as there is, really.
She may not even get reelected Speaker if the Dems take the majority. I think it's just typical politics to make this election about her anyway, it should be about the Bush administration and their unchecked arrogance.
That is reason alone to "risk" a Pelosi led House, for me.

Funny thing is...
...she's not more extremist than Tom Delay was. He was extremely far to the right and a crook as well.
Good luck with those GOP talking points.
GOP talking points = fantasyland

Wow
These polls are baloney.
How about we ask if they would like to raise taxes and put more people out of work and collect less money.
Bet that part of the dems agenda wouldn't get much support.

Just What's So Bad About San Francisco?
I love it when right wing broadcasters continually bash SF, but at the slightest provocation are always rushing out here to cover news stories, seemingly as part of a mini-vacation. It's an especially common occurrence in the winter and early spring.
I wonder how many bigtime righties own property out here? Someone should research this.
And what would happen if liberals referred to their opposition as 'Texas Republicans,' or 'Hillbilly' reactionaries? All hell would break loose. They'd be called bigots, or worse.
So why is 'San Francisco Democrat' tolerated by the media, especially with its queer-bashing overtones?

San Francisco
San Francisco is a very nice town. Good restaurants, and the baseball park is awesome. (Too bad the darn Giants play there). In fact, having lived in the Central Coast for a time, I would say that central and northern California is one of the prettiest and most pleasant areas in the U.S. San Fran has good mass transit, and is user-friendly. Property values are high.
America could do worse than to emulate San Francisco.
Tommy, congratulations for seeing through this current gang of thieves and voting for a change. I don't think the Demos are perfect by any means, but we must reassert our democracy and restore some balance in my view.
