NBC's Williams touts Bush administration "milestone" in listing polar bears as "threatened," but doesn't note lawsuits forced its hand
On NBC's Nightly News, Brian Williams said that the Bush administration's decision to list polar bears as a threatened species was a "huge milestone." But neither he nor the Nightly News report on the subject mentioned that the "milestone" comes after environmental groups twice sued the administration to make a listing decision -- and just one day before a court-ordered deadline to make a final decision on the polar bear's status. CNN's Jack Cafferty asserted that Sen. John McCain "has been at odds with his own party for years on issues like immigration, campaign finance reform, and global warming," without noting that McCain said on January 30 that he would no longer support his own comprehensive immigration reform bill if it came up for a vote in the Senate and now says that "we've got to secure the borders first." Additionally, McCain has reversed himself on the issue of border security. Read more
